[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Thanks for the tip On Apple Music. Didn't realize it was an option there. I've been a Spotify subscriber for years and just upgraded to the Family Share plan and can't believe they don't have something like this. To make it worse this "idea" was posted 5 years ago. Unreal.  I guess they'll rush to meet the demand once they start bleeding subscribers... then it'll be too late.

You need to understand, this is not a technical issue but rather a decision that Spotify has made to not offer this feature. Many people think it is a technical issue. This is to inform you that you can uninstall Spotify and move to Google Play. or iTunes. Both services offer more music, free, less commercials and has option to remove explicit music. I’ll check back with Spotify in a few years to see if any improvements have been made. But why sweat the small stuff. Just go to Google Play or iTunes or find a favorite station on iHeart. The choices are endless.

I think everyone in this thread realises that it's a decision made by Spotify and not a technical issue.  A simple filter is not exactly a complex thing to program ("allow playing showexplicit = false and explicitsong = false").

And everyone is aware that there are alternatives, there have been enough posts saying exactly that.

What us, as paying customers, actually want to know is WHY Spotify REFUSE to implement the most-requested feature.  And why they keep fobbing everyone who asks off with a "hey that's a great idea, why not vote for it?" but without acknowleging that people have been asking for it for FIVE YEARS and they haven't even come back with a "yeah we'd like to but there's a good reason why we can't and that's because...".

So yeah, we all could go to Apple Music, we all could go to Google Play or Pandora or any number of other streaming services.  But some of us actually like Spotify as a service, we like how it works and the music that's available.

What we don't like though is to be **bleep**ing ignored by a company that we're paying money to, who says they're paying close attention to the forums.  So close attention that they can't see that people ARE switching and they ARE losing money and they are pissing off the people that pay their salaries.

jacobsato

Good point. Have you asked for your money back? If so, did they deny your request?

I am starting to regret getting the family plan.  My wife is a school teacher plays music for the kids for some lessons. She still uses her Pandora account because they block explicit words.  And I had to take it off my kids phone because the language in some of the artists he likes was too much.  So sad.  Might have to make a change to Pandora.  Ugh.

bozo123

Bad language is inappropriate for kids but also work! I can't have explicit language in front of customers. I can't believe this hasn't been taken care of all ready. It seems like it should be a basic freature.  I am highly disappointed with you because of this.

How long does it take to make this basic function happen Spotify? I'll be cancelling my subscription for a second time because of this lack of functionality and going back to Apple Music ☹️
