[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Just signed up and couldn't believe this wasn't there. I dig finding new music and letting Spotify shuffle but that's not really an option since I've got kids in the car 90% of the time.

"Hello everyone, Spotify Staff here again. We wanted to let you all know we still think this is a good idea. We don't have any specific updates for you on this but we hear your feedback that you are interested in filtering explicit content" I don't know who said that but it is from the Status Update (top of this page) from November last year. Hide identy behind "Spotify staff here again!"  Very slow to act on good ideas? When is someone from spotify going to stand up, identify themselves  and SAY what is going on (please no more pap) and to stop treating customers like fools? Then we can either stay if the news is good or leave and spotify can go to wherever they are going - without us

Forget Spotify ... this request has been ongoing since 2012. There is no intention from Spotify to implement this feature, otherwise it would already have been done. 5 Years is a very long time to be asking for this.

We have to assume that Spotify is legally bound to NOT OFFER its Customers a way to filter Explicit songs.

Google PLAY is the same price as Spotify Premium or Family. Google offers a simple check box in settings to remove explicit content. There are other services like Pandora, Tidal, etc.. that will be happy to have you as a customer. The only pressure Spotify will understand is an impact to their finances.

Why continue to give money to Spotify and help them forceably promote Explicit lyrics?

Try Google Play for free and see if they have the artists you like in their 30M songs collection.

Load Google Play from your App store for 30 day free trial or you can use this link for 120 days free trial.

If you want the same functionality as Spotify Connect, then purchase a Chromecast dongle for your TV or HiFi and get multiroom sound at the same 320kbps quality as Spotify Premium. The Google subscription will also remove adverts when you watch Youtube!

*I think I am ready to make the move. One of my big requirements is that
it integrate with Amazon Echo. Does anyone know which services allow
filtering of explicit content and integrate with the Echo? I don't think
Google Play does (Echo integration)..*

Yes please, I have small children and find I can't use Spotify as much as I thought due to random explicit versions popping up here and there. If this isn't resolved I will be cancelling my subscription.

i would like this feature too for playing at work and so I can choose that my children do not listen to explicit lyrics. It is a parental choice not censorship of an artist's music.

Manicmum

Google Play music now offers the facility to turn off explicit songs so there is no excuse why Spotify can't do this.  I believe this to be a family-friendly update that is urgently required.

You will note the voting for this request is turend off.... Spotify don't want the world to see this as the most popular request and then be foreced to explian why they are unwilling to implement it. 5 years and no progress. It is not going to happen. We have to assume Spotify is legally obliged to include this unwanted content, otherwise they should have implemented a means for users to filter or substiture clean versions a long time ago....

If they don't want to do the work for this specific request, this could be solved as part of what I think would be a major overall improvement to playlist management based on saved criteria:
