[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Please add this feature.  It provides maximum flexibility to your subscribers.

Just leave Spotify. I do over a year ago. Couldn't be happier. Only way the company will understand. We, the consumers, have more leverage than the companies like for us to think. We vote with our dollars. Every day we are complacent and just complain that they don't hear us, the company does not care. They will care if you leave. You just have to be brave enough to do it. I couldn't t be happier leaving.

Really - 5+ years later and you can't come up with a technical solution for this? In that time the entire front AND backend could probalby be redesigned and relaunched.

No response from Spotify for months now. I wonder if they actually read these posts!

Why hasn't this feature been added since this post was first requested in 2012 (5 years ago!). No progress? It is a basic, but very useful feature. Seriously, if I was able to control the explicit songs on my playlist, it would help in the car or gatherings.

I finally gave up waiting and switched to Apple music, and now i see why maybe spotify aren’t doing it.

My guess is that a good proportion of users who pay for full accounts rather than the free ones, are of an age where they play music either at work, or have kids, so would be likely to activate the Filter to NOT play explicit songs, and by default Spotify would loose a load of revenue, as i’ve already found albums with NO radio edit version available such as Drake where the whole album goes blank if you filter the age rating in Apple Music, I presume Spotify make more money allowing all songs and losing a few customers, than they do from filtering and retaining everyone that cares. - also Apple music has already reminded me how much better the UI is on spotify!

My kids listen to Spotify almost every day. We love your service, but please add the Explicit filtering option....

You apparently do not have Children 1234papier. Its pretty clear what the
Parental Advisory warning is. If there was an option, it would be just
that, an option.

Under consideration?  does that mean in spite of thousands of requests/demands/appeals/begging from your customer base that this issue has NOT been under consideration until now? Just mark me as dubious and unconvinced

Hello Spotify, my email inbox is jammed right now with frustrated people demanding an explicit content filter button. I myself asked for this more than a year ago. You won't do it for some reason. Well, if life gets more uncomfortable for you with so many angry people clogging up your servers with complaints, then you will only be having a taste of your own medicine. If you don't like being pestered then you'll know something of the annoyance we parents and others who don't want to hear obscenities / misogynistic / racist / nsfw etc. lyrics experience with your playlists. Your contempt for us is going to come back to haunt you. So my advice to you is you better jump to it or you will fall! Kodak, Nokia... Spotify next?
