[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

8000 posts hundreds of votes, and spotify is implementing this with 50 votes.  They are essentially insulting their customer base.

Here is a change.org note you can share on facebook

If having an explicit option doesn't happen soon when my family subscription is up will be moving to a competitors streaming service.  Come on really, how difficult is it to code an explicit option.

matbrkr

Won't move to paid supscription cause i'm not paying for my son to hear swearing basically. Sort is out it's got to be the easiest coding job ever!

P.S. In terms of 'censorship' the artists who wrote these songs choose to use these lyrics as they was for an adult audience, I'm sure they don't want it played to kids as much as we don't.

Please do this sooner rather than later. As in NOW!

Spotify apply about the same moral code in poisoning kids minds as the tobacco companies used in poisoning their bodies. (remember the sugar candy cigarettes?) It's all about money. And they know it.

Please introduce this feature even if you only can get this as a subscribed user. I cannot think of a single business or technical reason of why not. From a developer's point of view, this should be a minute work especially when you already tagged explicit songs.

I'm about to leave Spotify and move to Apple music which has family filter settings on child accounts.  Such a shame because I prefer spofiy otherwise.

orwell2014

Family account blocking explicit songs on child accounts would take almost ZERO effort for Spotify to implement.  What is the hold up?  I'm about to leave and go to Apple Music because it has this option.  (I'm doing a free trial right now and so far so good)

Come on Spotify, you should be leading but you're behind the curve on this.

This feature is overdue! I accept that Spotify only put up one copy of each album, and that an 'explicit lyrics' filter would slightly reduce the library that the Spotify community can access. That being said, the community is calling for this filter to be implemented. It seems arrogant that calls made over many years are going unheeded.

I just signed up for a Premium for Family account on the assumption that this feature would be available. More fool me, I guess! I am now paying more for a product that is not at useful as I had hoped that it would be.

I like Spotify. I use it daily. I regret that Spotify is ignoring the community that provides its revenue (whether through direct payment, or by streaming its ads). With such strong competition in the music streaming market, it is supremely regrettable. I am having second, third and fourth thoughts about maintaining my subscription with Spotify.

Spotify, step up!
