[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Yep, we have Spotify on our home computer - kids use it all the time and add some pretty questionable content.  I would like to be able to turn parental control on/off with a pin.

With parental control off - I want to be able to search for any music and add it to playlists.

With parental control on - I want explicit tracks hidden when they searching and also hidden from being able to be played from any of my playlists.

Maybe an option to set parental control on or off by default when Spotify starts in case I forget to turn it back on after I have finished with it.

I would love this to work in a way that I could filter out the edited songs - I hate accidentally playing them when I just want the real song.

Agreed. If I hadn't found this, would have posted it myself. I like just playing an artist, but I'm not a fan of cussing. And there's always that one song that's explicit among all the other amazing ones. A button, switch, option... something.

I would imagine you've had a beta version of this running for many years now but you're not ready to roll-it-out as its so complex. You need a team to classify works, deal with multi-lingual tracks, deal with complaints about classification etc.

Its clear that if enough money and time is thrown at these issues a workable solution can be found. Please stop getting distracted by your growth plans and nail this fundamental feature.

The competing internet radio company offers this as an account setting. This should be a given for Spotify. Especially for paying members. It's a big enough deal that it's making me think twice about subscribing for premium service.

tmmacara

The lack of an option to block explicit tracks is a reason that I have not purchased a paid account.

This is the one thing that's keeping me from buying the premium service. I have kids and can't safely listen to music without worrying about a random f-bomb showing up in the middle of a song. PLEASE add this feature!!!

Spotify: Is there any update to this explicit / clean global switch option?

kericson

This would be especially helpful for the radio feature.
