[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I'm a school teacher and would love to use Spotify in my classroom, but there's no way I can do it with the explicit songs playing. Please give us an option to not play explicit content. If Pandora can do it, so should you!

This has been a constant request since 2012 (check the comments) and still you have no solution....seems like a lack of interest to me rather than lack of a solution.

Let's be clear. This is not a technical complication about having this option. Tracks are already flagged as parental guidance. They just need a simple code for example.

if (ChildMode == True && track.Explicit == True)
{
// Skip Track
}
else
{
playmusic(track)
}

So not exactly sure why they aren't doing this. Is this a legal or license limitation.

Guys and Gals

If you are in the UK, then the BBC Watchdog programme wants to hear from you about Spotify's lack of parental controls and exposure of explicit lyrics to children. The programme is on Live tomorrow night on BBC1 at 8pm.

Email them watchdog@bbc.co.uk or use social media - Twitter @BBCWatchdog, Facebook https://www.facebook.com/bbcwatchdog/

Thanks

Facebook page for Watchdog you mention above goes nowhere.

Here's the full link - it's the right one, but for some reason does not seem to want to work unless you then hit enter again on the Facebook URL.

Just sent my rant.

ParentalControl

Still unexceptible not having Parental Controls. Even Netflix the ultimate Movie Streaming Service has parental settings.

The way Spotify works is you could be listening to Elmo's World with your kids then bam here comes come Eminem BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP as a stupid suggested track on the free tier.

I will not be purchasing the premium or family until this is addressed. I want to play music at my pool and not have to worry about language.

Dear Spotify,

I have been reading these comments about trying to get clean versions of songs and being able to filter explicit content from you app. As I was clicking around, I clicked on the three dots next to a comment. Guess what I saw? You have a button to "Report Innapropriate Content"!!!!! This blows me away! You don't want us using foul language, but you don't mind if our children hear it on your app! I'm reporting innapropriate content... Create a way to turn off explicit content in your app.

Sincerely,

Totally baffled!
