[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

This was Submitted by sekuether21 on ‎2012-02-18 and updated on 2016-11-18 by Spotify staff and still nothing on it? Please, I am begging you add this! I have three youth daughters and music can be so impacting. I can't use this app at all.  😞
iTunes has this, and Amazon Music lets you know which songs have explicit lyrics. Do it better them! 🙂

Yes!!!! I can't believe this has not happened yet. I can't use this service when I have kids or family around. I would add that perhaps in "Clean" mode to play the clean version of a song instead of skipping it. Only skip it if there is no clean version available.

please please please add this feature! - it's so frustrating that I have to wait until i hear an f-bomb before I skip the song... A simple button to filter out excplicit content would make using this app a no brainer on all occassions, but as it is now, I can opnly use this app for myself.  It's off limits for my other family members...

With Amazon echo this is massively needed as my kids request songs.  You can do this on Apple Music. Spoitify....catch up!

Hi friends. While Spotify continue to refuse us this simple feature, I've come up with a little work around. I've started creating my own playlists based on the ones I listen to, with the same name but I put #clean at the end of it (like "Road Trip #clean").

I'm making them all public so that others can subscribe to these instead. If everyone starts doing this it'll mean we will start to have non-explicit options to listen to as well as send a good message to Spotify about how needed this feature is.

Please join me in creating as many #clean playlists as possible!

I just joined joined Apple Music tonight and will be cancelling Spotify because of this reason. I can’t expose my children to the bad language across the platform. Too bad. I liked you Spotify.

I have two girls aged 9 and 4. Explicit songs are an absolute no no!!!! Spotify you have let me down not having a filter or at least having explicit-free playlists!

i got Spotify so I can forget about playing DJ at my daughters birthday party, I'm sure you can picture the faces of other parents when the swearing started!

Not good- please fix!

Can you share with us why this filter is not yet available?  I would like to continue to use Spotify, but not at the expense of my kiddo's ears.  He is jut not yet ready for explicit language.....please resspond.....

Glad to hear you're working on it.  Some adults in their 30's also prefer not to listen to explicit lyrics. I just switched over from Apple Music which has the explicit filter so I'm a little disappointed in Spotify.
