[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

welcome

Thanks, Spotify, for the memories of sh&#, F-bombs and poor customer service.

Come on!  Just tell your customers that your not going to do this and they will quit bothering you about it and move on.

I've been a subsciber for years and was so sad when you stopped having radio edits. I would hear a song on the radio, love it, pull it up on Spotify and can only get the explicit version! Can you please explain to me why this is? Will you change back, PLEASE?

Also, I like the Discover Weekly but don't know how to prevent the explicit lyric songs from playing when I listen. Has this feature been added yet? Please tell me how I can do this!

I've been reading over everyone's comments and realizing that Spotify really doesn't care and everyone's concerns. I've been a subscriber for at least 7 years and loved it but this is ridiculous. I've had arguments with my kids about listening to explicit songs and I've deleted those songs off their playlists but this doesn't have to be an issue if Spotify would just create a filter.

I've kept paying for a family membership, thinking Spotify would finally fix this issue but they've been blowing everyone off who asks for it.

It pains me to lose playlists I've made with care, since I'm a writer and have specific music I listen to as I write. But I'm thinking this is going to be the end of the road for Spotify if I don't hear about any change in the next month.

Sooo...since commenting I've been inundated with responses from people who have their own story but ultimately, the same need. Daniel Ek, I hope you're listening, I hope you're reacting, and I hope that reaction is in favour of making a change to your company that enriches the lives of others and more importantly, the next generation. I work for a company who deal with child welfare concerns, I'm a parent who wants to avoid child welfare concerns, I'm not saying that Spotify directly cause welfare concerns but I hope you see the point that I and thousands more are making. I'd be happy to meet with you and your team and panel of parents to discuss demand, so that your company can tailor and supply that demand and hopefully reach a wider audience. Let's face it...the next generation are the ones we rely on to make life better for us all...but if they listen to Rage Against The Machine (Killing in the name of), the response you'll probably get is "f*#k you I won't do what you tell me!" Then we'll get nowhere! P.S. I love RATM!! P.P.S. But I don't want my young daughter listening to them!

I cancelled my premium subscription yesterday.  I've been a Spotify customer for over 4 years.  It was a bitter sweet separation.  Signed up for Google Play/You Tube Red family plan.  Only reason to leave was that google play offers explicit lyric filtering on radio stations.  So far I'm happy.  I was able to play pop music with my two kids in the same room!

PLEASE do this, I play the music for our office and would love to use other people's playlists instead of my own all of the time, but am afraid that a cuss word or two will sneak their way in there!!

mbenesole

PLEASE offer the option to disable explicit songs.

I do not need that garbage in my life, and I certainly do not want my kids to listen to garbage. I am cancelling my family membership until that problem is solved. I may even cancel my membership altogether.

Your last update on this was in 2016? Really?  That's some FINE customer service there...  NOT

Ridiculous from Spotify. This is definitely not a technical issue. Just other priorities. Shame on you.

  • I think this is a great idea...rather than skip the song couldn't it just play the non explicit version? Love Spotify but can't use it properly with my 4 and 2 year old around due to this, so much so that I'm considering cancelling my subscription.
