[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Although my 2 kids (teens) have asked me for Spotify subscription, I refuse to purchase for them ONLY because they are unable to prevent Spotify from playing explicit music!; so, I bought them Aple Music subscription instead (at least until this is corrected).

I think that this is a GREAT idea!

I support this idea but it needs to be coupled with more 'clean' content. Otherwise a lot of my playlists, which my children are also in to, simply won't play at all. Yes to explicit lyric blocking but no to it just skipping the songs altogether.

Great idea

If these global superstars can't spend some of their billion dollar
fortunes on providing radio edits, I don't want my impressionable young
children believing this is acceptable language for everyday conversation.
Oh wait. They mostly do have radio edits...

Just adding my kudos to this idea. It would be helpful in an office environment or around the kids. Ideally, you could select a playlist or radio station and it play the same songs, but the clean versions. This would be more ideal that skipping. But as a first version, skipping would be a good start. This could also be neat as a parental control too, within the family plans. Thanks for considering it.

Considering the current world climate of terrorism and the highlighted racism in the USA, Spotify would do well to take a stand and give its members the option to CHOOSE whether they wish to listen to the profanity in the music or not. While I understand I have the option to skip a track with profanity, that completely misses the point of what users are asking for.

I want the choice not to have to have to deal with it at all.
I want the choice to live by the standards that I want to raise my childen to.

I want the choice to live by the standards that I desire for my community.
I want the choice not to subject myself and those around me to artists who are not creative enough to write a song without the profanity.
Time to take some moral community responsibility Spotify. I know you do not want to regulate the music served (nor should you) however as many things internet are not governed by some kind of censorship body, then the responsibility falls upon yourself. Give the user the choice!

Unfortunately Spotify HAS taken a stand - they've chosen to be vocal on liberal political leanings and are censoring music who's views they disagree with as hate speech.  So the vulgar rap songs that preach hatred of whites and police will remain but any song that doesn't follow their agenda is going to be censored.

And all this after 5 years of ignoring a real, legitimate content filtering need from their paying users?

I'm moving to another service.

Right, as this isn't moving. i will be moving my sub somewhere else so i can protect my family, What music streaming device does everyone recommend (UK only) that DOES have the CHOICE to protect MY family??!!

Apple Music has the option to block explicit language. I believe it even
mutes some of it.
