[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

On desktop look up the clean version. That's the easy way.

@davebandit it's a fake link. It says Error-404

davebandit

@LoveTheSpotify - I think I fixed the link in my comment, but I'll post it again: https://support.spotify.com/is/using_spotify/system_settings/content-censor/

@davebandit - Thanks Dave – never spotted those, but I guess maybe the album I wanted 'clean' versions of don't have them!

 @LoveTheSpotify No such setting on my desktop version or Android (being able to manually select a "clean" version if that exists does not qualify).  Can you describe exactly where the explicit filter setting appears - if it does?

Amazon music has this future and works very well, and I dont want to leave spotify just because of this. Please add this filter to spotify.

@davebandit this setting is only available for desktop version, which my kid doesn't even have, he only has it on his phone and the Alexa. Also, my kid is not going to go in and click that on the albums that he listens to. Not to mention, most people don't listen to an album anymore. What year is this? We make playlists... Also, the fact that you have to do it for every album ever created is such a pathetic implementation, this is not even remotely acceptable. If anything, it's kind of a slap in the face to anyone that wants to do this. This is the kind of **bleep** that was acceptable in the 90s. The fact that every track has a tag on whether or not it has explicit lyrics tells me that they just don't want to implement this. They think they are somehow being "freedom of music" people. But this isn't freedom of music, it's trashing family values. It's removing a way for parents to parent their child. The statement they are making is that Spotify is more concerned with the songs and artists than they are their own customers. You can tell from the first line of that **bleep**ty article @davebandit (note: I have no problem with Dave, he was just being helpful) shared with us: "Spotify does not censor music. We make it available in whatever form it’s given to us. " Yeah, well Spotify, it's already made available to you in the clean version, we're not asking you to censor it, we're asking you to give us the ability to parent our children how we see fit, NOT how SPOTIFY sees fit. When I walk into the kitchen and here "**bleep** that nasty **bleep**" and I see my 3.5 year old daughter sitting at the table playing PlayDoh, I want to smash the Alexa and just be done with this bull**bleep**. Spotify, if you don't care about your customers, it's showing. If you do care about your customers, implement this NOW! This elitist bull**bleep** you're shoving in your paying customer's faces is going to ruin you.

@vgullotta Precisely how I think. Can I re-use it?

I even like to bleeping swear, but don't appreciate not having the
possibilty of controling my kids exposure to it.

Never seen customer service like this either. Shameful from Spotify.

I think that we should not have all this madness about explicit words.
Children are already watching and listening to explicit words on YouTube
and music services. Sometimes kids hide that they do this. It's okay to say
these words. They are apart of expressing your feelings. The rule about
these words is not to use them against anyone like saying "Go to **bleep**!"
It's wrong to do that.
