[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Status: implemented

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.
 
We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such. 

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

The other day I was listening to Spotify through external speakers by the swimming pool, playing with my daughters and so on. Then one of the songs of the Spotify generated list (which are very good, by the way) started and it contained very crude words indeed. I was extremely embarrassed when the youngest started asking questions about the words she didn't know. While I understand that a user-defined filter for explicit content might be seen by artists as unfair, it's also true that such safeguards are used in other settings, like for example cinemas. There are no free lunches and artists should be able to accept that this is a legitimate request of their fans.

Pandora one has this option.  This is what most radio stations play, so there are obviously two versions of each song.  This is a must have option.  I really do not appreciate swearing in my music listening.

I just loaded Spotify this morning and it had an Explicit Button in the settings !!!

Well this is Bizzare. My Samsung Galaxy S7 has the exact same version of Spotify yet, like you all, no button. 

 

Dear Spotify. Please do not remove the button and can you please add it to my other devices?
