[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Never thought of this before, but now have a kid, this is a must!

I love the Premium for Family option and have added my kids to my premium account but I hesitate some due to the ability for explicit content to come through on a harmless radio station they select. Please add this filter to Spotify so that I can know my kids are able to listen as they please!

Such a waste response from Spotify staff. They themselves don't know if their team wants to implement it or not. Very disappointing Spotify. !!! It shows your lack of commitment for new features. Seems your staff love explicit content more!

spotify cares **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep**

Baffled and bewildered as to why this isn't done. They're already tagged, for goodness sake. As far as changes go, this one is trivial.

It's not about censorship, or preventing material being heard by the subscriber. It's about the *freedom* to choose, at certain times, whether to play a particular type of content.

And the list of alternatives with this feature grows longer every day...

This is what I tweeted with the boss of spotify and spotify itself 3 days
ago. No answer this time:

"@eldsjal do you realise that millions of kids will be growing up used to
@AppleMusic, @pandoramusic or @GooglePlay etc & not @Spotify?"

Yes. I thought I would look through the "Implemented Ideas" (Hot, Top and New) to see what Spotify finds more important than the younger listens of their site.

Lets see:

Add support for Google Chrome Cast

[Desktop][Mac] Touch bar integration

Customization of playlists

[Desktop][show] Podcasts and Video on Desktop

[Desktop] Daily Mix on Desktop

Picture Profile

Way to prevent duplicates in playlists

[Desktop][Windows] Return Spotify to the system tray

Discount Family Subscriptions

[WP8] Bring Spotify Free to Window Phone

Ability to Delete Radio Stations

Add Equalizer to Spotify

Spotify Conncet for Desktop App

Please Add Spotify Radio Fuction to Sonos

Queue on iPad

Sort and filter tracks inside a playlists (iOS)

Show original year of album release

Bring Back Sorting in Search Results

Full screen playback info and visuals (Desktop)

If all the above can be addressed and implimented surely an explicit filter can be applied?

I complained very strongly to Vodafone who are a spotify partner. They gave
me and my wife a 2 year premium account with our call and data packages but
we won't use it because we don't trust Spotify not to Eff and Jeff around
the kids. They said they would pass on our concerns to the member benefit
selection team.

Hmm.. Not a coder myself, but the basics...

If Var Explicit = True (run code to skip a song)

Else (play song)

Because that seems like a really hard thing to implement. At this point, I feel like Spotify thinks that their social image is more important than the functionallity of their service.
