[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

My kids (13 & 9) love music, but the inability to filter out explicit content is required for me to switch from Prem to Family plan.

I'm happy to see they are finally doing something about it.

I'll give this another couple of weeks. If the filter explicit option isn't available and I can't control it on my kid's accounts, I'll have to look at Pandora or other alternatives.

That is news. Where did you get this information. I am not seeing the filter. Did Spotify make an announcement?

@mesc1 Some people have been seeing this roll out to their devices. It doesn't seem like it'**bleep** everyone though, I don't have it yet and my Spotify updated last night.

Is it only on the paid version? Who has seen this? I hear talk about the filter, but haven't seen it. Did I miss the comment that had a picture of the filter

Don't get suckered in guys 'n' gals. This is purely a tactic from Spotify to defocus you from demanding the ability to filter out explicit songs. You are all being suckered by Spotify.

I have the paid version and don't see it. Haven't seen the pictures either.
Yeah I'm no tech person but I know enough that this could've been done long ago in across the board. I'm already in the process of leaving Spotify probably by the end of the week.

How is them implementing what people are asking for being suckered?

I don't blame them for doing a soft rollout if that's what they're doing.  It took a year for this feature request to make it from the backlog to the ToDos, I'd half expect it to take a while to show up in all of their products.  Or, if they want to put the feature behind the pay wall, they can choose to do that.  Not the choice I'd make, but whatevs.

A little communication about it is what I'd like to see, but again - that's up to them to handle as they see fit.

If this soft roll out had been done back in 2012 there would not be an issue. Personally (and I can only speak for myself) I feel the slow response from Spotify shows a lack of concern on their part. As a parent that is a big deal. I can only expect that other parents feel the same way. So even if Spotify is implementing a slow roll out, one should expect a lot of doubt and pause because of Spotify's slow response to its listeners request. An official memo from Spotty (unless I am missing one) and time line on how it plans to implement and get the explicit filter feature out to its listeners would be helpful. Communication is important at this point and time.
