[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

@greenfont I have been, they just don't care. I have been peppering them with DMs, but they actively refuse to respond on this, their own hosted "community", to all these paying customers, @SpotifyCares was cut off when they were making the account, they were originally trying to make it @SpotifyCaresAboutTheMoneyInYourWalletsButDoesntGiveACrapAboutYourKids but you know, twitter has username limits, so it auto shortened to @SpotifyCares 😉

They just DM back almost like autoresponse saying comment on *this*
community thread.

I'd love to know what's happening to this. It's been two app updates since
someone posted a screenshot of their app which seemed to be trialling an
"include explicit songs" option. Mine still has no such checkbox.

I agree! Also should work on making more clean versions of songs available.

Most be worried about some lawsuits claiming you are altering the playlist or obstructing free speech?

last update nearly a YEAR ago, clearly they think this is a good idea (NOT!!!!)

This seems such a simple and important item to add, and with over 9500 votes, still no action

the thread on the community was started back in 2014.

Clearly Spotify don't care ... cancelling my subscription.

Spotify. Please figure out how to remove explicit lyric songs. I was horrified last night when my son went on Spotify to listen to one of his favorite songs, which the radio edit is clean and no inference to the next part of my comment, which is that the next song to come up at the "N" word not once or twice, but a few dozen times! That is fine for adults who listen to this music, but culturally and politically, and most definitely for all children is highly inappropriate.  We heard good things about Spotify but will have to delete it (and warn every parent we know via social media) that is isn't a family friendly or children appropriate app.

Finally, if you can connect to Waze, you can figure out how to remove explicit lyric songs from your app.

Thank you.

Very dissapointed that this change has not been made yet.  I thought Spotify was an upgrade from Itunes.  I just became a new family subscriber for my family, and am now thinking I made a big mistake.

This is a total waste of time and energy.

Why not post your comments on Twitter under #ExplicitToggle, then share the link with your friends.

Using the Spotify site is like shouting at a brick wall in an empty room.

Then when you see Spotify on Twitter, post a suitable comment then a link to #ExplicitToggle

It's not a free speech thing or a rights thing, you would have the option to use it or to not use it, it is simply parental controls.

I tried their spotify cares dan but they just told me they are aware of it
and will nudge the developers. I said they need to give them a kick rather
than a nudge 🙂
