[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

C'mon already Spotify. This is ridiculous how you can't put a block on songs with explicit language. Does no one at Spotify have young children at home!

Deeply frustrated!

I just wish they'd pop on here and throw us an update. There are a few people seeing it in some form of trial mode, but it's just horrible customer service to make us sit waiting, and not give us an update, when they obviously have an update. I'd be fine with, "Hey, we are working out some kinks in the code, but the feature is coming soon." or "Give us a month, there's some kind of issue" something, anything. But this silence from them is just foolish. They are losing customers day after day over something they might have tomorrow, or next week, or mid November, or by the end of the year, but they continue to sit on their thumbs and hit that autoresponder button like a bunch of morons.

I'd love this to be a feature not only to disable playing the explicit versions, but also to disable playing the "clean" versions. I just listened to Get Money by the Notorious B.I.G. and it really lost its flow at times because so much of the lyrics was removed. So when, if ever, this feature is implemented, please also consider those of us who want the original version!

This has to be added ASAP if Spotify hopes to take over pandora in streaming in parties and respectable communities!

@choff1 when they add this feature, if you want the original, just don't turn on the explicit filter....

Even though I still have Spotify, I am giving the Pandora 60 day Premium trial a try. Pandora has the Explicit Content On/Off feature for Radio and Music. I am on day 3 and am trying to force it to play explicit music and so far, the Explicit Off feature WORKS! I like the layout of Spotify better but I love myself and my family more. After 5 years of many of us begging for this feature and they just are NOT acting. This is very sad. It appears that I will be transitioning from Spotify to Pandora. Amazon and Google Music does not offer a 100% Explicit Off feature.

Hi and thanks for your comment. You might be correct in your suggestion,
but it depends on how they implement it. The point is that a filter would
most likely allow users only to filter out the "explicit" tracks. Not
turning the filter on would allow a user to listen to both "explicit" and
"safe" versions.

I want to filter out the "safe" versions, because they're edited versions
of the original songs, and not as good because a lot of the lyrics, rhythm
and music is missing. And I think that the option to do so should be
implemented as well as the option to filter out the "explicit" songs.

As Developer I'd tell you, they would love to do it. Every developer takes pride in the quality of their product. Like an artist.. but developers serve the interests of a company and building this function may not satisfy Retrun-on-investment. although I see songs tagged as explicit already, it seems to me creating a function to skip songs with the existing explicit tags a 2 day effort.

This will make Spotify

- safe for children

- safe for public events / gatherings / house parties.

- expand fan base among SFW seekers who mainly buy premium plans.

----

The best way I found to avoid explicit content is to save and edit playlists that don't have them. It's too much time consuming nevertheless.

sekuether21 brought up the topic  ‎2012-02-18.  Spotify updated in 2016 to say nothing has been done.   It's been 5 yrs since this was brought up.  This issue not been resolved?  Please add a filter or option in account setting soon.  Thank you.
