[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Status: implemented

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.
 
We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such. 

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

 Never have so many asked for so little for so long. Several threads on spotify deal with the issue of keeping our kids away from filth on a premium service that we pay for!  If I ask respectfully if they are just TAKING THE **bleep** (p-i-s-s) I bet the strange wisdom of their FORUM EXPLICIT FILTER will try to protect your delicate ears. But then, they don't lose any MONEY by censoring ME

I don’t understand why they even make these playlists with the explicit versions as most of the songs will also be realised with radio edits.

Solution... try a different music service provider.

  • Apple Music can limit explicit content through the iOS "Restrictions" feature. 
  • Google Play Music will block explicit content for radio stations (no filter for on demand content)
  • Pandora can disable explicit content

Money talks and I imagine Spotify prioritizes features based at least in part on their financial effect.

You already have an explicit tag on songs, it definitely would not be difficult at add in the option of not playing explicit songs! You guys are lazy sods who appear to care more about money than anything else. Just make the change that should have been available so many years ago.

Just cancelled my account. Hard to believe this feature has been requested for over 5 years and still not available. Sad Spotify!  #FAIL

I assume this has already been mentioned, but there's already a button at the bottom of (at least mainstream) albums with explicit tracks that allows you to switch to the edited version. When you're already tracking different album/track versions, Spotify, I don't understand why it's so difficult to add a user preference for one over the other....

Please add the button to disable explicit lyrics. I thought this would have been a no brainer. I use it on my pandora account because I have small kids in the car with me a lot.
