[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

All....There are tons of people who want this.  And it is a fairly active topic...obviously.

Spotify IS NOT listening.  I really have tried to think...hmmm why would they not do this?  I can't think of any good reason other than an ideological one...which stinks.  My hope is that we could coordinate efforts and pretty much put market pressure on them to change.  I even went to the trouble of putting up a website - that still isn't organized enough to do anything with.  However...if you want to go there and sign up maybe we can amass enough people to do something.

The issue is they aren't listening and therefore we need to try to make them listen.

A social media campaign is one thing.  Dropping the service is another.  But my hope is that we have an active group of people who are willing to act in one accord and focus our efforts to get this done.

if you have ideas or want to join this group, right now, it's a website thing.  I am TOTALLY open to other options.  This is about generating a co-hesive group around this one subject.   THOUGHTS!!  Feel free to drop them here and/or contact me via the website

I am ready to join with you.

and NO...there isn't any "Catch" and there won't be any solicitations...I am just a dad tired of this bleepin' CrXp (self bleeped...)!

I'm a teacher and play music through Spotify all day in my classroom.  It would be REALLY helpful to have some type of Explicit filter option.

1 star rating in the app stores means their app shows up AFTER the other music apps, this will be a big deal for them. Please keep rating it 1 star and using the comment to state that it receives 1 star until we get an explicit filter.

Can I just ask everyone to bombard them with emails, everyday press send again.
If we don’t get them to take notice, we will all have done all we can.

I emailed them the following:

Hello,

I have been a Spotify customer for about 8 or 9 years now. We have been asking for an explicit content filter for well over 5 years now. A year ago, you told us what a great idea this was.

Where is the explicit content filter? It showed on a few people's devices for a short period of time, but no response from Spotify. You don't listen or care about your customers. The handle @SpotifyCares is a frigging joke, and a horrible one at that.

We are starting a new strategy to get you to listen. We are going to all start rating this app 1 star in the app stores, stating the lack of explicit content filter is the reason. You are losing customers every day for this. Have you never had ANY customer service training at all ever? A simple "we're working on it" or "We've been working on it and we hit a snag", or "hey, we're this far, any of you programmers out there know how to get around this issue?", anything would have been ok, just something to let us know it's being worked on, god forbid you might give us an ETA or something. If you can't figure it out, you're having trouble getting it implemented, there are legal reasons you are struggling with, whatever the reason, we are paying customers, we are humans, and we can understand these things, but your outright refusal to give us any information just shows you don't give a darn about your customers, are essentially stating:

"give us your money and shut the **bleep** up" -@SpotifyCares

We have been asking for an update on numerous Spotify owned forums and social media. All you give us is a canned response. So now, we are coordinating efforts. We will drop your ratings and let Amazon, Apple and Pandora scoop up your potential customers. Then we are going to leave you, and you can lose even more money. It's unbelievable that you respect us so little that can't just give us some form of update.

Heavily disappointed.

Technical support just answered this to me:

Hey there,

Thank you for your response. We understand the frustration why this feature is taking so long. Don't worry, we can assure you we're currently working hard on an explicit content filter.

We do appreciate your feedback as it helps inform our decisions going forward, although please be aware we’re not able to confirm if or when a feature that allows users to disable explicit content will be released.

Also, feel free to check out our Community where we keep everyone informed about new releases and any other announcements. You can also submit feedback and suggest new features there.

We hope this answers your question. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

All the best,

Tim

Just be careful with this comment, to use music publicly you should have a licence broadcast license.

Tired that my comment and ratings disappeared. Just after it was published
