[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Just got this back from "Lawrence"

Hey Robert,

Thanks for writing back to us. We apologize if it sounded like we did not listen to what you're writing to us about this issue.

However, the explicit content filter was actually launched in August of this year as a test version of this feature, it was taken down the midst of last month as the on-going test for the feature ended.

Upon checking backstage, we can confirm that the feature is under development and improvement to be endorsed again to our customers in the near future.

Moreover, we know it is not the answer that you'd like to hear, but if this feature is readily available today we have no reason not to inform our customers on how to enable it.

We highly appreciate any feedback from you to improve our service more in the future and we'll be more than glad to update you if the said feature will be launched soon.

Let us know if you have any other questions, and we'll get back to you in a beat.

Have a great day,

Lawrence

Thx for your post.  I wonder where the keep the community up to date.  This forum post certainly isn't that place.

Not sure what their email actually says.

Either way - glad to hear "Tim" from customer support responded.  hopetully "Tim" is not a Bot.  LOL

Looks like Email is the way to at least get some sort of response.

I am off to send mine!

I have been following these several "explicit filter" posts now for over two years - for a few days as a paid up family subscription that spotify lost because of their lack of filter and  attitude, and since then as a free account that chooses not to use the music service, but to exercise my right to participate in the forums in the hope of helping to achieve what must seem to all rational beings to be inevitable. There are probably several reasons for Spotifys attitude but it is unlikely that the moral stance of "Non censorship" is the primary - everyone  understands that providing a filter is not censorship but choice - therefore legal or financial obligations spring to mind. Whatever it is the insult to participants in these forums is compounded by spotifys blo ody minded attitude of non co-operation in the discussion and the fobbing off of legitimate complaints with patronising updates (good idea -vote for it- still think its a good idea-etc) but at least they dont do that very often! - but the point here is spotify have now achieved the status of "truly enigmatic" in my estimation. I am at a total loss to evaluate whether it is blo ody mindedness that drives their attitude, or just plain stupidity. The word blo ody will be bleeped on this forum but the word f uck will be pushed onto your children on a paid family subscription, even in a childrens section. I call that stupidity.

I've never thought that this is such an active thread when I posted my naive desire to have a mechanism within Spotify to turn off expletive content. Until a few years ago I didn't even ever think I'd need such a feature honestly. But, as stated in my initial request, the top pop hits have become a cesspool that is even uncomfortable for me to listen to, and I swear all day, and my kids hear it and that still know not to talk like that themselves. But!...I simply don't like them to be constantly exposed to such vile lyrics as all too common today, especially as the main topics seem to be drugs and sexual degradation.

The reason why Spotify doesn't want to enable the feature is quite simple though. Money...

I'm not a censorship nut but am using Spotify with an Amazon Dot. The other day, my 5 yr old grandson was playing with the dot - acting silly requesting songs that rhymed and I couldn't believe what started playing....the "F" work shouted over and over. I ran across the room to unplug the Dot to shut it down. I would hope that either Spotify or Amazon has a way to limit content - otherwise I will have to un-plug my Amazon devices when the GKK's are around - just in case. Is there a way to block this hideous noise???

As a mum if young children, and someone who doesnt enjoy listening to abusive language, I'm cancelling my premium account until an appropriate safeguard is in place.

I play music in a classroom art setting where I manualy "remove from queue" all explicit content.  It takes a lot of time and some playlist or radio stations add songs and I get "supprised" sometime by language that is not alowed in my setting.  Please add a explisit filter button.

Guys, this is a big thing..... 5 years and no solution? I use Spotify for teaching and keep getting caught with songs that are inappropriate, if this isn't corrected soon I'll have to switch back to iTunes.
