[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

hey all...

Cancellling is certainly an option...but let them know  - this is the current list of steps i have collected from others on this forum thread.

VERY IMPORTANT: be sure to go to the app store and rate 1 star....also put in your rating that it's because of NO explicit filter.

Also - email the support@spotify.com  address.

Finally - tweet @spotifyCares   (which I dont' think they really do)

also - if you want to start building a group go to this website i created:

spotifyexplicitbutton.com

Goal is NOT to sell u something...goal is to make our collective voice be heard.

This is not just a *good* idea, in today's hyper-sensitive workplace, it's a necessity if you want to listen to Spotify at work.

I'm a manager, with an open door policy. I would *love* to leave Spotify running all day on my machine at work, but can't trust that I'm going to walk down the hall for a cup of coffee only to come back and find some NSFW lyrics being broadcast out of my office.

Please implement this ASAP, otherwise  I'll be forced to cancel my Spotify pro subscription and subscribe to some other streaming service.

I emailed Spotify Support about this tonight and got the following reply.

Thanks for reaching out to us. We understand you'd like to know if there's a way to filter explicit content. Don't worry, we're here to shed some light on this.

We're always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall.

We currently have a test in the works only available to 15% of our users. This test contains an option in which all explicit content is disabled when selected.

We can't say if or when any specific features will be added. But as soon as we’ve got anything to announce, we’ll let everyone know via the Spotify Community.

Let us know if you’ve got any other feedback.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. We're only an email away.

Best wishes,

Alissa

Hmm, I emailed them the other day and got nothing back, but seems everyone else is getting responses. Interesting.

I will never use Spotify again until this feature is added. I do not appreciate when explicit music is randomly played in my music stream. Tell me when the option to use spofity with the ability to turn off explicit music is added, and I'll think about downloading the app again.

Come on! it's time to get this implemented. I have little children with their own family accounts and it is dangerous to not have the ability to filter music!

I would say sorry spotify but I’m. It sorry...

I have Just signed up for Apple Music, I’m sure I’m not the only one
choosing apple or amazon over you. Sort out the explicit lyrics and might
consider switching until then my money is going to someone else

Unfortunately could not wait anymore for such a simple filter to be added and cancelled our family Spotify premium account. So many other choices now that have the feature and seem to care about what their users want. We'll see how this IPO goes for a company that takes 5years plus to add a feature quite common and very reasonable for so many reasons ...

Yes! As a parent I have elementary kids and as much as I love the Spotify playlists it is extremely hard to listen to them when my kids are around. Any sort of option to have easier access to edited music would be the best way to go please!!!!!!

I'd love to see this. I don't mind explicit content...but I do mind when my little brother is around. I don't think he is old enough to say some of the things the music says. 😉
