[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

C'mon Spotify, you can do this. And should before Congress does.

Only a year since Spotify agreed this was a good idea, how is a company which moves this slowly successful, I will not be renewing subscription as like to start playlists while son is in the room without the risk of him hearing constant swearing.

Please get this done

Issue still not resolved. Spotify is becoming increasingly unusable which is a shame since I've been with Spotify for a few years. I hope Spotify adds teh option to filter out explicit content or has playlists which do not have explicit content in them. Please hurry up. I'm getting fed up having to monitor the playlist for my 11 y/o.

When is this getting done? Can't listen to any of the top charts playlists without hammering garbage into my kids heads.  Fix this.

I wonder how many other "feature requests" get 357 pages worth of upset comments, without any movement by Spotify staff on this issue that has been raised in 2012 (according to this thread at least). I've rarely seen a more active conversation/comment section anywhere else...  mind blown

Hey  - complaining here is like preaching to the choir.  Not sure even if Spotify reads it to be honest. it may help us get it off our chest, but let's do some things to get their attention.

Power of the group - focus efforts on making these people get off their self-righteous political mindset of forcing us to listen to "art" and giving us the ability to filter out **bleep**!

If you are leaving spotify - we understand but before you go, do us all a favor and make your voice known.

So we can all benefit from group effort - take an extra 1 minute to do these things below:

1. Go to the App store for your particular device and give the a 1 star rating stating that lack of "explicit" filter is the reason

2. Email support@spotify.com and indicate to them your intentions

3. Tweet @SpotifyCares @spotify  and demand they put an Explicit filter

4. If you feel comfortable, visit a website i put together to try and focus efforts;   http://spotifyexplicitbutton.com

Without a concerted effort, we will continue to be disappointed by these folks.  Ultimately, they are leaving us with no choice but to cancel our service.

@paul_mccrorey Spot on Paul!  I've done all four of the suggested items.  Maybe if they hear from enough people it will override the hipsters trying to keep the "art pure" or whatever silly reason they are holding out for.  The songs are already marked explicit, what other reason could there be at this point for not allowing it to automatically skip?

Mdav1315

Soooo... Why is this still not a thing?

corybowe

@Mdav1315 -

It seems as if they are ignoring this request regardless of the high amount of requests. Please do the following things that @paul_mccrorey suggested:

These are all great ideas and if everyone will participate we can make a dent!
