[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Why has this not happened? I was a Google Music and Pandora user for many years and just switched over to Spotify because of a great deal. The thing that sucks I can't let my kids use this because this feature is missing. If virtually every other service can do this, Spotify can. Please fix this before you lose a new customer.

If you could just add a sort by the explicit tag I could easily start playing a playlist or album after the explict songs.  It would be such a big help.

vmonks

You don’t really care. Understand that we can choose another service. Which, like many like me, we have.

stuartridout

Why is this not implemented yet?  Surely there is MASSIVE demand for this.    Increased accessibility through smart home devices like Alexa means my child has complete access to the F-bomb, C-bomb, racism, sexism and anything else that is labelled explicit.

minebeat64

Hi Spotify staff.  Will you be adding this feature soon?  I see that the conversation started long ago and Spotify Staff updated it a year ago... any progress?  Would like to know that my kids are listening to a clean stream.

Thanks,

Juan Diaz

Agreed. It seems like there’s been a great amount of demand for a great amount of time for a way to filter explicit content. One wonders if this issue is being taken seriously.

paul_mccrorey

@roddypcraig  and other's sadly...Spotify has proved themselves to not really care about you and your miniscule antiquate morality (this is me being sarcastic because i SHARE YOUR CONCERNS).  They are more willing to present that "ART" as "PURE" than to care about your young children's 'innocence'.

Bottom line - This forum is NOT going to get them to move. To be honest, I am not sure what will.  Their devotion is ideological IMHO and therefore probably NOT affected by the typical customer oriented tactics.  Nonetheless, there several of those who follow this forum who have banded together to do the following steps in a last ditch effort to force these idealogues to move to a more decent approach.

Steps to "Maybe" change their Ideological Minds: (Hopefully)

1. Go to the App store for your particular device and give the a 1 star rating stating that lack of "explicit" filter is the reason

2. Email support@spotify.com and indicate to them your intentions

3. Tweet @SpotifyCares @spotify  and demand they put an Explicit filter

4. If you feel comfortable, visit a website we put together to try and focus efforts;   http://spotifyexplicitbutton.com

5. Contact some sort of media outlet to possibly shame them into doing something!

This will hopefully keep the pressure on. If Spotify is indeed working on this feature, it would be great if they'd announce it and give us a timeline.

Perhaps a more direct assault is called for at this point.

I propose the addition of the hashtag #spotifyhateskids to your posts.

If you're feeling especially ironic and don't mind stooping to their level, perhaps #spotify**bleep**skids would get their attention even more quickly, especially given the current elevated sensitivity to the issues hinted at by the alternate meaning of the hashtag.

paul_mccrorey

@joeblows  OUTSTANDING advice.

Step 6.  #SpotifyThinksYouAreAPrudeAndWouldLikeToSaveYourKidFromSuchAnArtistUnfriendlyAttitude   Lol

Is there something wrong with the navigation on these pages? I find it hard to follow the arguments because "next" and "previous" clicks just seem to do what they want and not go where I want. We have to ask Spotify to fix that or do they consider that to BE fixed
