[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

In response to Spotify's statement on this idea, dated November of 2016...

I am a software developer, with my core competencies being in front end development. If I had access to your code, I'm certain that I could implement this feature with one single line of JavaScript code.

Unless, of course, your code base is a mess. But still, there's no way this should require anything more than one or two sprints in a scrum cycle!

Apple Music has it. Make the update or else I'm not renewing my premium subscription.

I'm shocked. Songs with explicit language is more offensive to me than most anything. We had to switch to Pandora because of this issue. It's too bad.

this needs to happen not just for kids but for people who want to self regulate and struggle with listening to things they know they shouldnt. there is more than just explicit song lyrics on spotify, there is a whole range of audio porn as well. adding a feature to allow for accountability would be very helpfull for people trying to quit.

Spotify are in the market of fueling hatred, mysogony, racism, violence and general disrespect against anything that "normal" humanity would consider within acceptable limits, and to force these standards on others.  Why they should do this is unclear but it goes a lot deeper than just exposing children to porn.

Hi Spotify, PLEASE may I also ask on behalf of my kids and so many other mums out there... I don't like using Spotify with my children in earshot as I cannot switch off songs with explicit content. I want to preserve their innocence as long as possible. My eight year old girl wants to use Spotify on her own now but I won't allow her to. Please can you guys activate an option to switch off explicit songs? We would all love you for it forever and mums like me will support you even more if you could help out with this. Thanks!

Keep it up folks.  Every time I get an updated comment notification sent to my inbox it goes RIGHT TO Support@spotify.com

With all of this multiplied by all here - hopefully it will alert these idealogical people that we don't want there Bleeping Crappy F-bombs and Explicit "Art".

Other steps as outlined previously:

Steps to "Maybe" change their Ideological Minds: (Hopefully)

1.  A MUST IMHO:  Either manually or automatically Forward ALL status emails from this thread to Support@spotify.com

2. Go to the App store for your particular device and give the a 1 star rating stating that lack of "explicit" filter is the reason

3. Email support@spotify.com and indicate to them your intentions

4. Tweet @SpotifyCares @spotify  and demand they put an Explicit filter

5. If you feel comfortable, visit a website we put together to try and focus efforts;   http://spotifyexplicitbutton.com

6. Contact some sort of media outlet to possibly shame them into doing something!

This will hopefully keep the pressure on. If Spotify is indeed working on this feature, it would be great if they'd announce it and give us a timeline.

Keep the ideas coming folks.

Not only do families have to contend with explicit versions of pop songs
being beamed to our children and young teens within Spotify's
pre-prepared playlists. If they venture into the Podcasts they can find
material like "Guys we F**ked*

Family Subscription? - this stuff is not family material. Give us
options to protect our children now.

Sent a message to support@spotify.com and leaving feedback on their service on the app stores.  And I told them that tomorrow I'm voting with my wallet and buying a service from a competitor.  I would have gone with Spotify if they had this feature.

Vote button doesn't work.  Need a Explicit  Button ASAP or will need to cancel premium.
