[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I think I would share how good the spotify service was and would subscribe to premium if I could control the explicit with a settings. I can't share it with my kids in the car due to the language and I can't share it with my friends because of this either. Such a shame that it takes so long to get this done. It must be a licencing hold up becuase it can't be a programming hold up - that's a 10 minute programming change and the community wants it and needs it badly. Please hurry on this feature since it been 1 1/2 years since the original request above.

It would be cool if this worked the other way around too!

I hate the non-explicit pauses in songs, and I usually find it really lame when words are switched out from F*** to Funk etc.

A simple tag that makes it obvious what song you are listening to would be nice.

Or, better, an option to choose between play all, play explicit only and play non-explicit only

I want to use this feature.

Definitely agree that this feature is required. The lack of control is making it almost impossible to use Spotify at home, due to there being young children around, and preventing the use of playlists and radio feature. Very annoying for what is otherwise a brilliant service!

would welcome this feature!!!

Yes please.

Slacker radio has an explicit filter button which works great, just plays they edited versions of the songs you love without the language!

I will be going back to Pandora if we can't get this soon!

i echo the sentiment of most 228 comments already posted on this idea.  Having a social media service, such has Spotify, it makes a lot of sense to be as accommodating to wider listening environment, such as weddings, youth group outing, workplace, Roller Rinks, Bowling, Skating rinks.  These all would benefit from the option to provide "FCC Radio approved" lyric versions of songs.

As this feature is enters into "Solutioning" phase, it is ideal to think of it:

1.  Being used in Radio Station and playlists mode as well.

2. When there is a "Radio Edit" or non-explicit version of a song that Spotifiy encounters during playing of a radio station or playlist, it should substitute it into the playlist. Em & Em has many compelling beat and rhythmic rhymes but if that is the only artist in a playlist, the entire album would be skipped or not played.  But having the alternative lyric versions would be great.

3.  When listening to just about any song on Spotify, user has the ability to Right Click, while on computer, to add to playlist or your favorites.  But if the song you are hearing that you wish to add is Explicit, this feature should add the clean version.

We are all attracted to music based on rhythm, sound, tone, then Lyrics.  We begin listening before we actually know the Category of lyrics, then find out the lyrics have vulgar language.  We like the song, but would prefer the “radio edit” version so having the option when selecting songs to add to favs, playlists, it would be ideal to let control that when adding music to our lists……

Thanks for the great services thus far.  I look forward to seeing this feature reach maturity soon.

This would be a good 'family friendly' feature.  I'm limited to listening to Pandora at home because they have the feature.
