[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

 Hello,

I have a premium account. Resently I thought I should add my 7 year old daughter for her own account. Shocked to find out that this feature is not available. Due to this issue not being possible I will be forced to remove myself from Spotify and go with a differnet streaming service that is more family friendly. I am shocked that this was not resolved. The "Staff" is saying it is a good idea and they will look into it. BUT THAT WAS IN 2016!!! It is almost 2018 and they still don't have a solution! Give me a break! That makes it all the worse!

Been watching this thread for some time now. Still amazed that $potify hasn't woken up and added this feature. So here's a thought...how about starting an #ICancelledExplicitSpotify hashtag and then actually following through with it? I cancelled my membership about 3 months ago but just signed up again so i can post this comment. I am now once again cancelling my account.  #ICancelledExplicitSpotify

Not sure what the rule is for posting links here, but this issue has obviously gone on quite long enough. I've written up an editorial piece about it - feel free to read, share (social media, reddit, etc), comment, etc! Hopefully we can get some more traction on this: https://techaeris.com/2017/12/27/as-2018-approaches-the-spotify-explicit-filter-is-still-mia/.

Offer option to filter explicit

Great write-up. Do you know of any communities where it could get any traction? Is there a subreddit or something similar where people would find this interesting?

@corybowethanks - and I'm assuming /r/Music is probably a good one... /r/Spotify appears to be mostly playlists but there are a few non-playlist posts in there as well. Will take another gander in a bit, that's just what came to mind off the top.

It looks like we're going over to deezer.com. Uk- based with explicit filter included on family subscription, same price as Spotify one and extensive library. Just need to migrate playlists across...

Hi @JustAnotherJay - I thought I'd get started on twitter about this - see if it got any more interest! I tweeted this morning and just got a holding message so pinged your write up over to them... https://twitter.com/RobsRambling/status/946148075885690882

Feel free to join in! 🙂

Rob.

@Rob255 @vgullotta thanks for the shares... doubt it'll do much, still seem to be getting the same canned responses... /sigh.
