[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

You already tag songs. Shouldn't be so fracking difficult.

@rbaumert

That is EXCELLENT!  I've added those to the blog post on my site.  I am going to use it as a repository for these ideas.  GREAT JOB!

I have since gone over to Apple Music which has a explicit content blocker.

Come on good people at Spotify you really need to get this sorted, i listen all the time with my kids in the car and they shouldn't be hearing the language that some artists feel the need to include.  Help me out here please.

It seems like they don't care about their customers at all when our wishes
are ignored for years at a time!!!!

Can we at least get a solid answer that this is on the cards to be done, or how many votes would be required to action the explicit button. Please dont respond with vague jargan,

cheers

It's surely not that difficult guys. You're pulling in 10 bucks a month from about a zillion users but you can't employ someone with the brains to add an explicit filter; or better yet the ability to subsitute in radio edit songs. Why did nobody have the idea to add this feature years ago? Many other apps have this feature...

Get real.

Without looking at the code, you can't possibly know that the 'explicit'
label "...has nothing to do with how easy it would be to code." And you're
dead wrong.

Without even looking at the code, I can tell you for absolute certain that
the presence of the label guarantees that there is at least one mechanism
already in place to facilitate a simple filter. There are probably several
.

Explicit songs either:
1. Share a common field in a relational database
2. Are members of a common class
3. Share a common object property key value
4. At the very least, contain a string for which the method
indexOf('explicit') returns true.

Any first year computer science student could implement this feature with
ease. There is no technical challenge at play here. This is a business
decision. Plain and simple. So... It's time to hit them in the business.

File a complaint with your state attorney general's office. File a
complaint with the FCC. Contact the BBB. Try to organize a class action
lawsuit. Blow up your social media accounts with a simple, catchy phrase
like "Spotify doesn't care." Get creative.

Any of these by themselves won't be impactful. Some of these suggestions
are a stretch at best. Even frivolous. But if ten thousand people did all
of it multiple times, don't you think that could get the point across a
little better than this mostly ignored comment thread?

I can only assume the product owners don't have kids. Shame on you and your narrow minded priorities.
