[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

The sad thing is that this feature has been requested since 2012. It’s a gimme, the metadata associated with the track will tell you if it’s explicit, yet for some reason they refuse to add the feature. Something is fishy.

I despise the fact that all these top ideas with more than 9K, 10K upvotes are put on “Not Right Now” or “Good Idea” and these status changes are from a year ago now. Why is this stuff not implemented yet?

Cancel....if everyone complaining would simply cancel their subscription,
they would get the message.
JustAnotherJay

@jpheljx(and everyone else  saying to cancel) - I wish it was that easy, but it's not. In my case, I used to use Google Play Music and loved it but when it came time to my family, I can't use the Family Music plan because I have everyone on a grandfathered Google Apps account from way back when Google offered them up for free. Family Music and Family App sharing accounts are not supported by GApps and I'm not setting everyone up with Gmail accounts just to use those (not to mention the headache of years of using a personalized domain for email and everything else). As for Apple music, you ever tried setting it up without an iOS device? It's darn near impossible... unless they changed something in the past couple months. Tidal is too expensive, not ot mention doesn't have the same selection. Unfortunately some of us are stuck with Spotify if we want a decent music selection at a reasonable price or due to other technical issues presented by some of the other services.

There is an alternative to cancelling.  Not everyone can cancel - understood.  Either way - if we can all come together to put pressure on this Leftist organization then maybe we can get them to move off their idealogical bent.  But They have demonstrated time and again a committment to the "ARTIST" vs. their consumer.  Where most of these "Artists" don't have a clue what it means...they are just Fxxxin' potty mouths!

Anywho - here's the steps this group as pulled together so far.  My recommendation is to join and start applying group pressure.   But to be honest - I don't have a lot of hope they will bend.  I think it's less about money and more about ideology.

1.  A MUST IMHO:  Either manually or automatically Forward ALL status emails from this thread to Support@spotify.com

2. Go to the App store for your particular device and give the a 1 star rating stating that lack of "explicit" filter is the reason

3. Email support@spotify.com and indicate to them your intentions

4. Tweet @SpotifyCares @spotify  and demand they put an Explicit filter

5. If you feel comfortable, visit a website we put together to try and focus efforts;   http://spotifyexplicitbutton.com

6. Contact some sort of media outlet to possibly shame them into doing something!

7. Turn this thread in to a review of other services and how to change to that service.  Apple music using “SongShift” app to transfer playlists

8.  Link to an excellent article by Jason Bouwmeester   This article does an wonderful job summarizing the issue!

9.  Follow this twitter account - https://twitter.com/shameonspotify  and retweet as much as possible.  The effort to get this campaign an outward focus.

You have laid out their case for not changing anything perfectly. They know
that most will just complain but not cancel.... Good luck with that...I
don't need this provider that much. My children are more important!
MOMTO3
I just want to say if nothing else, I am glad that I am not alone in
wanting to protect the moral fabric of our society. I feel we are waging a
war against the devil in a way. Thank you for fighting this with me. It
has to be done. Seriously, our society is going to implode!!
Andyfka

Hey Spotify. Don’t forget about this idea. It’s really important at a time where so many songs contain explicit content. In order to share Spotify with my family, filtering of explicit content is important.  If you look at Netflix where they have age appropriate logins, it allows me to safely subscribe.

Perhaps make a feature for the family subscription?

abonamico
contacted their support and the best they can do is to telly you how to select the clean version - if available - manually... never felt more patronised than that
fj101

Have google home devices in every child's room (4, 8, 12). I also personally dislike profanity as an adult.

Give us the freedom of choice!

Without this feature, we're forced to cancel our subscription.
