[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

What is amazing to me is that this topic has been active for over 5 YEARS and has over TEN THOUSAND individual votes in favor of it, yet it still doesnt seem to warrant a response from Spotify?  Does anyone from Spotify even monitor this forum to see what’s ‘trending’?

Well, there are a lot of good ideas posted above on how to try to bring additional attention to this.  I’ll add my own:  sign up a 7 day free trial, and when it comes time to sign up to pay, let them know then that this is the reason you’re not converting to a paying customer.  Perhaps enough of those responses might get some attention.

Responded to their 70 million subscribers! tweet and got the same canned response...

It’s the year 2018!! Spotify are there any updates on having the OPTION to FILTER EXPLICIT Content??

ArynKate

PLEASE! I work at a school and will often leave Spotify on in the background. I don't have time to check whether or not every new song on the playlists my students choose (I use this as positive reinforcement and classroom management) is explicit. This is such a simple thing, it's so rediculous that nothing has been done about it. I may have to start paying for Pandora instead since they do have that capability.

10,000+ votes for this aren't enough? Mind boggling.

It's really hard to expand your music choices when you have to avoid types of music that are known for their use of profanity

Do this already. How can you offer a family plan without a parent being able to filter explicit songs????

coryseaman

Geez, get moving on this already.  You have hundreds of developers.  Yes, it has some deeper technical implications than a typical user would understand, but it's absolutely not one of the most difficult ideas to implement, and you have thousands of customers asking for it.  Get after it!

I love premium. In fact I have cancelled my subscription twice and ended up rejoining. My only problem with it is the huge amount of explicit songs. I hate hearing the language and I definitely don’t want my kids hearing it. Please add this feature, it’s not hard to do.

Come on Spotify - please can you get this sorted out. How long does it need to take? I have the family account and I should be able to block explicit content from my kids - I'd rather not hear it either!
