[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

A million times yes! I can't have my kids use my subscription without it.

I'm no programmer, but a thought on this:  wouldn't a filter like this simply be a matter of a couple booleans in the code asking:

1) Does user have an explicit filter? (YES/NO)

- if YES continue, if NO then break.

2) Is the track tagged as explicit? (YES/NO)

- if YES then skip track, if NO continue.

Thanks

Ok this has been suggested over a year ago, its an obvious feature that should have been in the program from day one. Pandora has it, slacker has it. I pay for this service and Im starting to get mad that this still doesnt exist. Are you listening, spotify? I'm considering looking for a different music service that I can actually use when my daughter is around.

This just became a showstopper today as we heard our young kids pulling up Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" on Spotify today. It wasn't quite the same song they love to listen to on the radio. Please implement this awesome idea, maybe even as an account setting or preference (better than an option button on the player that can be easily clicked).

Needs to be an option for both desktop and mobile, so I can listen to explicit tracks at home, and turn them off when I'm at work.

Pandora has this feature.  Perhaps everyone should switch to Pandora until Spotify figures this out.

I'm glad that this is now under consideration and I'll keep an eye on its progress, but it's a deal breaker for me. Until this is implemented I'll be cancelling my premium subsctiption I just signed up for. This is a major omission by the developers.

Dear Spotify,

I realize that you don't give a rat's a$$ what your customers think, but "Under Construction" has ALWAYS meant something is being constructed. You then go on to say "we may never build it." This request has received over 900 kudos in 1.5 years. Why do you have a community forum if you aren't going to give a darn? You aren't going to be able to stay alive once competition comes in (Google's Play Music). Google's service has it's problems, but they seem to be innovating it a lot wiht customer feedback. Other companies who listen to the community will make a better Spotify. Adapt or die. I'm not sure who's running your company, but you guys less responsive than Netflix, and that's a LOW bar.

This is something we ALL want. Go ahead and keep your collective heads in the sand. We will all be gone within a year.

Let's see what Spotify do in the face of Google's competition. I will jump ship to Google unless this is implemented.

Horrifying! I put on "Michael Jackson Radio" for a school function, seemingly the most innocuous of all stations available. Low and behold, who comes on but Snoop Dog with F-Bombs and every other other curse word out there. All of this over the loud speakers for a hundred elementary school students to hear. My mistake for using the Radio option as opposed to a play list, but we wanted Michael Jackson genre rather than exclusively Michael Jackson songs. PANDORA has the option to block explicit songs so Spotify is more than capable of adding it. The question is, what is the resistance to doing so? A parental control option is NOT asking you to "censor" content, just allow parents to protect little ears and minds! SPOTIFY, please add a PARENTAL CONTROL option. Thank you!!!
