[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

As a man with kids I think this is becoming a key part of a service. I know other services do have it and, without wanting to sound dramatic or anything, I am thinking about switching. I say this not as an ultimatum but only to show the seriousness of this to me.

I know TIDAL have a radio play version of albums that can be toggled. So something like that would work. Or on the play screen a toggle there. Ideally a song wouldn’t be skipped but rather a clean version would be played. That said, to start with, i’d be happy with skip functionality.

Thabks for for looking into this.

Hey, Spotify PMs, listen to your users! consider that my house is a house where we have a family subscription and use many devices such as computer, Roku, Phones, Tablets, and Echo's to play spotify content. Often there's children who are not our own in our house, we NEED an explicit filter, it's not optional. Today we needed it and I switched to Pandora cause it does have an explicit filter.

BTW, you are coming up on 6 years since this has been suggested. Get going!

Well Spotify, I’ve only been with you for 4 mos. 6 (SIX) Years is entirely too long to be waiting for a explicit button/filter !!!
If you haven’t seen the need in over 6 years Plus 10,000 users and $99,900 later, requesting this simple control.....you have no intention of implementing this.
A friend of mine had an interview with Warren Buffet (billionaire)(owner- Berkshire Hathaway) Warren commented saying “if you want to know what a company will do for you- look and see what they have currently done.... that is what they will do”!
Spotify, you have no intention, this is why you’ll loose our patronage with us and everyone we know to do the same as us!!

I am a DJ and use the pioneer wedj system that works in correlation with Spotify and iTunes exclusively to be able to pull music the problem is that I am a mobile dj not a club dj so it is crucial that I play music that does not explicit lyrics I have had this conversation with my followers on my Facebook page and they have agreed and determined that Spotify is not family friendly enough to have a package offered called "Family" THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE! Radio edits are sorely needed!

It's a "good idea"?

I can't listen to release radar or any suggested radio around family because I'm constantly having to jump up and skip songs.  Every without family around, I don't want to hear suggested songs come up about F this and "artists" using the f word to describe their sexual escapades.  It is demoralizing.

Long overdue

We need to all chat with their chat service and tell them to please make
this explicit lyric block happen. Maybe if they see how many people are
chatting them about it( aka taking up paying employees time) they will take
it more serious? This is getting ridiculous.

All,

I use Spotify at work as backround music for a "shop" that I manage. The wide variety of music choices, new relases, and radio play make great play list material. I've been complimented on my DJ skills (which is funny in itself) and I've manged to infect others with my K-pop BTS addication at the same time.

Becuase it's a work enivornment - explicit songs with cuss words isn't something I can leave running out of  the public speakers. I've had to avoid some "good" music because musicians (more lately) use vulgur language.

A global filter to keep my music choices safe for public consumption would be a wonderful addition.

I agree either a button or a way to filter it in the preferences, especially for our kids accounts.

Still watching and waiting, Spotify. Just do it already.
