[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Switched over from Pandora for the free trial and shocked to find no explicit content filter. We have three young kids in the house and so will be looking for another service or returning to Pandora. Pandora has been doing this for years. I'm surprised Spotify has turned a blind eye.

Surely it's about time this was added to your backlog!

Instead of skipping explicit songs, I'd rather it play the "radio edit" so my kids can still hear the songs with the swear words"blanked".

Wow, 395 pages of comments of people wanting this feature. What's the hold-up?

No option to filter explicit content - Customers asking since 2012!

I just joined my family and have now discovered no way to filter explicit content by choice, and to see that many have asked for the option since 2012 with Spotify doing nothing.... wow! This is suprising, it shows an arrogance in not listening to customers to provide an option, technically it is very possible.  Both Pandora and Apple offer this option.  Simply not good enough and shows the values of Spotify and their culture in my opinion.  Bye Spotify!, we'll be moving to another service.

This needed to be implemented like five years ago.  What on earth are you dragging your feet for?  This is seriously getting frustrating.  Get it together, Spotify.  I promise to be your biggest fan when you do this.  Until then, I am talking about this on Facebook to my 700+ other (mostly Christian also) followers as much as possible.  PLEASE!!! Give us the option to block songs with explicit lyrics.  or play the clean versions of them.  PLEASE!!!!

More and more playlists, in particular top 50/100 chart lists, have a high percentage of explicit songs and explicit free lists are hard to find. Surely it is timely and responsible given you now have family subscriptions to have a function for filtering out explicit music?  I have been a long time user of spotify but without that function ot limits my use significantly and I certainly won't be extending our subscription to a family membership until a filter is applied. It is actually irresponsible not to!

I was considering switching over to Spotify from Apple Music Family subscription but if there's no way to block explicit music then that's a deal breaker for me and my family. So, it looks like I'll be staying on Apple.

This was requested way back in 2012 so there's really no reason why it could not have been implemented by now -- your competitors have it. Please do the right thing Spotify and enable this functionality.

I'm leaving Spotify because this is taking so long. Google Play Music and Apple Music both have this feature implemented. Bye.

Me too. Now deleting the app from my iPhone. It was a short switch from Pandora to Spotify. I guess I have to go to Apple Music to get both explicit filter and a family plan.

Google Play also have those.
