[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Seriously Spotify devs, this was started 5, yes 5, years ago!!!! That’s an eternity in software development.  And you still want us to believe you think it’s a good idea?  Are you trying to force explicit songs on me and my kids?  Really, just get it done.

Yanijones
And the percentage of explicit songs seems to have increased a lot in the
past 5 years!

This NEEDS to happen - I love listing to the original content at home, but when there are young ears or I want to play spotify at work ... it causes major issues!

mcscouse

Any chance that this will happen - I don't want to hear profanities just because the song happens to be on a list.

Please!

It really is about time they listened to their customers! What is the point really in a “family” based subscription if I can’t let the kids have some freedom in what they listen to?

time to make this happen Spotify, you are well behind the competition here

Wow!

The comment about a button to block out all explicit songs that you use on this website is from 2012!!!!

Are you kidding me?

Youre obviously not listening to your customers!

Apparently you have done nothing about this issue. You actually use a suggestion that’s almost 6 years old about a pretty serious topic. I listen to mostly easy listening and Chill type lists. All of a sudden an explicit song comes on with F—k this and mother-f’er this! You can’t tell me that you can’t filter out this content? You take our money every month and laugh all the way to the bank....

Why are you not fixing this issue?

Peteymit

I canceled today because of this issue.  Great service but 80% of the time I'm at work or have my kids around.  If it existed, or if family plan member profiles could be set, I'd sign back up again.  Obviously this would be an easy fix and some principle is keeping you from adding it.  My principles won't allow me to let my kids hear the deragatory language about women, especially when I have three daughters.  We'll sign up for Apple or Pandora.

caibronsdad

My kids love to dance but I can't seem to find continuous music without explicit language. I can manually filter this content out on any music app or site. If I'm going to pay for an app, I expect this to be possible automatically. I won't renew my subscription until this feature is added

Exactly what I did. Result: two current and four (all teens) future users
of Spotify now at the mercy of Apple Music. Not optimal but things are what
they are.
