[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

The idea of an email auto-forward rule for these to Spotify support email accounts is brilliant. I'm off to set one up as well.

Following adding this simple request as many before me have, it has occurred to me that I think Spotify are not just blocking the introduction of a filter this, they are actually promoting explicit content, and in my opinion, it has nothing to do with the artist and how they want their music to be heard.

Ok, hear me out from the barrage of comments of support of a filter I have noted that many people are saying that in my shop or the store that I work in I can’t play music etc.

I therefore think that Spotify have the explicit songs added in there to stop people paling music in public locations. This is because I am sure most of them do not have broadcasting licences. (Actually, playing music to more than 5 people is broadcasting. Even in our cars with the music turned up we are all actually broadcasting and could actually be breaking the law)

Therefore, Spotify in my opinion are actually making it more difficult for people to play the most up to date charts by adding explicit songs.

Therefore, I ask all the people in the UK to contact the BBC Panorama programme, they have a section that you can add topics you would like them to investigate. I have emailed them to look into why as are we not better protected from explicit language, when we are paying for a service.

You can get information on how to contact them online.

Please take the time to email them. The more we stand up and fight the more then entire industry will start to listen.

Deezer has "Kids-only profiles keep your kids safe"

iHeartRadio has an option. Pandora has an option. What can Spotify do to maintain a competitive advantage with its competition?  Add an explicit button.

Any news on this, I've just moved from Google Music where this could be done - now think it was a mistake

I worry about this at home as welll.       I keep looking for something.  I love Spotify but i want to be able to choose like i do for computer games etc a young age acceptable profile. On CD's you have an explicit language lable on them so you don't choose it if you don't want to hear it but on Spotify there is no such option.  Alternatively I wanted to be able to set up a profile for my son so on that there is age specific content but i can't see how to do that either....

I give up so i have cancelled my subscription off back to Google Music so I can control what my children listen too #sensibleparent

I am a new user, and was shocked when I heard an un-edited version of a song.....

Please can you give the option........

It is ridiculous to offer a family plan but not offer the option to automatically skip songs tagged "explicit".  This is offered by Pandora in the settings.  I will try Spotify for a few months but if this is not offered soon.  I will definitely unscubscribe.  Spotify is not offering I can't get already get from Amazon Music or Pandora.  Even the free Pandora allows you to eliminate explicit content.
