[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Updated on 2018-12-06

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Hey guys. I’ve started a petition to pile on pressure. Let’s build momentum and get Spotify to change this ASAP! xx

REALLY!? THIS QUESTION WAS ASKED **bleep**EN IN 2012!? WHAT A **bleep** SERVICE! YOU SHOULD BE **bleep**EN ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES, WE'LL LOOK INTO THAT IN ...... BULL**bleep**, 6 **bleep**EN YEARS AGO!?!

hope you noticed the foul lauguage, the feeling provoked using this lanuage is not how I talk to my kids and I dont enjoy it blaring in my lounge when I also have no control over it untill its too late. would like to use your service more but too afraid to play it, as its pretty offensive sometimes. when i signed up all those years ago you did have tags on music that was "explicit" so i had a choice of reviewing it before putting it on my play list. but you removed that option and it downloaded the explicit versions. wasnt happy. but now that its avalible as a app on our smart TVs, kids are also able to access the content as easily. if buying additional music licenses to have "radio" edits is a problem just tag them with "F or explict"  so we can skip/remove them, otherwise its just worth listening to a local Radio Station that is required to follow broadcasting standards. get that app sorted so we can all enjoy lazy sundays or bbqs out the back with the kids and crank up spotify!

p.s sorry about the language, looking into fixing that in the near future.

great, you found a way to remove my explict words...but couldnt do it after 6 years....lol

This feature needs to be added, or I'm cancelling my services

When the explicit button is enabled it should convert explicit songs to their clean version if available.

Den_nan

Had top 50 today's hits  playlist for my children's party but almost 50% of the top hits were explicit.

Come on... Spotify what's going on?

Was thinking about a family plan, but now thinking about switching to another service.

By the way, marked the reply from Meredith as inappropiate, as the nothing has been shared so far and seems your customers are not being heard. Maybe you ready the inappropiate messages...

Hey Spotify, you can count me in as a contributor to this:

http://appleinsider.com/articles/18/02/04/apple-music-poised-to-overtake-spotify-in-us-possibly-this...

I left for one reason only, and that's because your refusal to add an EXPLICIT button. Apple Music has this and so I quit Spotify and subscribe now to a service that allows me not to constantly hear F-bombs in my house.

If you don't start listening to your customers you WILL lose.

I agree, we have the family account, and I wouldn't really say that it is family friendly
