[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I'd like to give my son an account but I'd like to block explicit songs until he's a little older. Please add this feature. Thanks

Just signed up to Spotify trial, and the Welcome list of 55 songs has 9 that are explicit.  I don't want that. Not for myself, but definitely not with the kids around.  I know I can skip, or make my own playlists, but idea is that we use it with an Echo, and then you won't be able to see what's coming up.

I won't be carrying on my subscription unless you get the explicit button sorted.  Surely it can't be hard.

Add me to the list of folks frustrated about the lack of an explicit button. I don't see them changing this anytime soon.

In the meantime, I'd like them to at least update where the word "explicit" appears when hearing a song. Unless I'm blind, the "explicit" tag only displays in the playlist, but not in the actual song title while playing (e.g., when I'm in the car and the song information is displayed). By adding a simple "E" to every song as it's playing, I can manually skip the song if my children are around. Instead, I either have to study the playlist ahead of time or hit the skip button once it's too late.

Surely they could at least make this compromise.

good idea

I am looking into purchasing a music streaming service. Spotify was recommended for me. I have to be able to play music with no swears as teach public classes that children come too. I also dislike how hard it is to find customer service. If I had concerns with payment etc then I like to have an e-mail trail.

Fit Radio offers both an off button for swears and their customer service was awesome during the trial period. If I could make my own playlists with them, they would be a contender for sure!

What exactly is the hold up?

bss1975

I've been hanging out hoping for some action on Spotify, but I've given up.  This was the service I preferred at the start, but it's obvious they don't intend to move on this issue and it's a dealbreaker for me.  I've now contracted with another streaming service for the year and I'm also unsubscribing from the thread.

I switched to Spotify from Pandora and I'm considering going back to Pandora because I felt fine using it in the car around my kids and in my classroom when I'm working and I have a few kids working on homework. Can't do that with Spotify though.    You have all the songs with explicit lyrics marked already, I don't see how it would be that hard to write the code.  What's the hold-up?

So, Spotify, a year and a half has gone by since your last update, how much longer? Surely it can't be that hard to implement this sought after feature.
