[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I just set up family account and found this forum discussion while I was looking for solution to turn off explicit content for mg kids accounts. It’s laughable really!  I can’t believe there has been so much said on this topic over such a long period and no action yet from Spotify team. Just talk talk talk of what a great idea it is. I just joined and was flipping up between this and Apple Music, for a family account. This one topic of explicit content basically kills chances for me staying with Spotify. I’ll be changing to apple music when membership expires.

The fact that so many are signing up for the "family plan" and THEN discovering that there is no way to protect the family may indicate false, or at least misleading marketing practice on the part of Spotify.

It's been 2 years since the "update" where's the button? Do you realize I can't even use the app when I'm driving with my 5 yr old.

Jman781

Without having to read the entire thread, does anyone know the party line as to why Spotify is ignoring this? Other than laziness (I'm confident it doesn't take 5 years to fix this issue), I'm sure they have an explanation, even if lame. Just curious.

@Jman781, I'd say whoever is paying to keep the filter out of the app is worth more $$$ than those paying for premium service.

I've spent over 20 years as a software consultant and know you serve the stakeholders, not the software users.  Sometimes they are the same and sometimes not. In this case it seems these are different sets of people.

This is the number one idea for votes at the moment and no comment in two years. Makes you wonder about the health of the platform...

This would help the morale of my employees. We have so stressful work, and being able to play a station without worrying about songs that are not HR appropriate would be awesome.

SO is this still a feature being worked on?

ResidualReality
Based on their status here it’s just a “good idea” and not yet even being
worked on.

Precisely - a radio station in the UK would not allow explicit content before certain hours if at all - give Spotify advertising radio services, and sells family packages, why don't they play by the rules? Should i be writing to ofcom?
