[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Apple Music explicit filter works perfectly well. Get a trial account, test it out, parental control & explicit filter is available and fully functioning.

Check the terms and conditions listed under Spotify family plan. A family plan without an option to toggle parental control is incomplete.

I have seen Spotify staff  answering selective postings.

So Spotify gave me the typical fluff on Twitter

Would love to have some of you Twitter users reply to it with me. They need to know this is a serious request and if they don't implement they will lose some of us.

I agree that the explicit button needs to be added to avoid content offensive to children or to me as well.

You mention that you like the idea but have no time frame for when it will happen.  I like the idea of paying for the premium service, but have no time frame when I will be able to do that as well.  I guess I'll wait till I see when your time frame works out.  In the meantime, I am open to other services that have explicit filtering.  Unfortunately, I may not be open to Spotify if you wait too long.  It is your choice to earn my business.  My kids are requesting a music service.

Thank you,

Father of 4 kids - uncle to many more!

I just tweeted on the message mentioned. Hope others will too.

I think customers have given up. This post was in 2012. The last post from Spotify was in 2016 it seems. Spotify already identifies songs that have explicit content, so it shouldn’t be to hard to activate a feature to let me skip them.

The idea that songs songs should be listened to as the artist created them, as a reason not to filter explicit content, isn’t sufficient. Before my Spotify subscription, I did not buy music with explicit content. If the artist created it that way, then I avoided it. I’d like to still avoid it.

I’ll give this a few weeks more. Then I’ll switch to Google music. At least I can filter for their radio feature.

Please don't give up. There is a resurgent interest in this because of Amazon Echo, Google Home etc, these devices give kids direct access to choose and play music in the home, and it's turned this from an irritation into a massive issue. The media will notice soon enough and give Spotify a huge beating about it if they don't fix this.

I've just tweeted to Daniel Ek (founder and CEO), maybe some of you could do so too. It looks like he does reply to some tweets.

Seriously, this request has existed since 2012. Is Spotify that incompetent or do they really just not care? The problem is that we play music around our families. And honestly, some of us don't want to hear the explicit stuff anyway. I am considering canceling my family subscription.

Complete incompetence and disgregard for customers request for a simple thing. This request has been made since 2012. I know several families that have family subscriptions. We may all cancel. Grow up Spotify and realize that you need to listen to your customers to continue growing your business. This is such a simple thing to implement. Geez!

They have no **bleep**ing plans to add a **bleep**ing filter. It's a waste of **bleep**ing time complaining. They don't give a **bleep**.

I've tweeted him loads. He even has kids. At least they filter this forum. Wankers.
