[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Well, you did it Spotify. You finally pushed me away. This weekend I signed up to Apple Music and cancelled my subscription with Spotify. Now I’m finally using a service that has actually implemented this invaluable feature, instead of just attempting to placate us with empty words for 6 years as if we are idiots.

not idiots - mushrooms. Covered with s h i t and kept in the dark. Goodbye Spotify

Really unfortunate that Spotify can't put this together. I just moved my entire family over from Apple Music and now will have to cancel and go back. I can't have my children listening to explicit.

Really poor show that you won't address this issue.

Please please please make a way for me to filter out explicit songs. I don't want to hear that stuff. So many Spotify listeners have asked for this for years. Add me to the list. I love Spotify but I want to be able to listen f-bomb free.

It seems ridiculous that Spotify hasn't enabled this feature, when it is a matter of common sense. I can choose genre, artist, album, but I can't choose whether my children stumble onto explict songs or not. At least 11k people are supporting this, and Spotify last responded to this in 2016. Please come to the table, Spotify.

How is this not showing on top of the "hot idea" list?

Hi All,

Been following this for a while and have written multiple times to Spotify, they clearly do not care about the 11,000+ people who want this.

I setup auto email to send all posts to this idea to support@spotify.com as the multiple emails I had written to them to ask for update on this issue, were only responded with Cut and Paste responses on how to choose tracks.

They have now shut down the support@spotify.com email - You now get a response saying

Trying to reach support?
This email address is a black hole of nothingness. To reach our team as quickly as possible, please fill out our official contact form.

So instead of answering the queries they are now just ignoring us.

Had enough moving to Apple Music

I got in touch with Watchdog about it this week - maybe if others do too, they’ll look into it and put pressure on Spotify???

I too have raised with UK - BBC Watchdog - watchdog (at) bbc.co.uk

Consider tweeting at them, too. @Spotify or @SpotifyCares The advantage there is it's at least visible to the general public. Maybe we can get a hashtag started...? #cleanupspotify or some such? Ideas?
