[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

This needs to happen. I hate getting into a song only to be boxed in the ears by swear words. I wish there was a way to filter the explicit versions out and have, instead, "radio" freindly versions. Shuld be extremely easy to do.... Still waiting.

My kids love to explore music but I am going to discontinue my premium subscription and just use pandora since they have this filter.  We are a pretty liberal family but I don't want to have to monitor music for the F-bombs, etc that come up randomly.

This feature is needed and desired. Let's get on with it!

Spotify, please do the right thing... we're paying you $10/mo and it is unacceptable to have a family gathering with dozens of kids running around and then to hear a track that causes all of the adults to pause mid-sentence because of its explicit nature.

I assumed I just need to log in and turn on the explicit filter -- the same as I might do with Pandora or Netflix -- only to find this basic functionality is not available and the last response from Spotify was a year ago saying, effectively, "we'll consider this".

We'll be switching to an alternate streaming services shortly if we can't determine a way we can leave music on around the house without having to worry what might play out in front of the kids (and, quite honestly, ourselves). For the record, I would never think the "stations" we subscribe to would have explicit lyrics, but since we can't control what is added to these playlists (without creating our own, which is the primary draw of Spotify), it seems we're stuck.

I think this is an essentially feature that's missing from the product at the moment. We are actually considering stopping our subscription as songs with explicit or offensinve lyrics keep getting played, even on "kid-friendly" stations like pop and playlists like radio 1 weekly, now xx etc. we don't want to be at a family barbeque (again) with sh*t ni$$er b1tch and their friends blaring out of the hifi

I'm a teacher who uses John Mayer-esque radio stations at school when my students are working independently. The inability to filter out explicit content may force me to cancel my premium membership. Please fix ASAP! 🙂

It's unbelievalbe that in this day and age some sort of parental control is not available.  I will be uninstalling this on my computer.  I can't have F-bombs going off in my home with my 8 year old.  It's absolutely ridiculous that there is not option other than to uninstall.  Which I am doing as soon as I am done writing this.  I will reinstall as soon as filters are available.

I've been waiting on this feature for quite some time now. Hopefully it is implemented soon. I don't typically listen to music that has explicit content, but every once in a while something pops up on one of my Spotify radio stations that has some explicit language. Would love to see this addition!

iTunes radio has a toogle switch. I'm >< this close to canceling spotify & just moving on to iTunes radio.

Get it done.

Please do something on this spotify.  It can't be hard.  You already know songs are explicit as they are labeled.
