[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

"Under Consideration"?????  Canceling spotify now!

My 2 year loves a bit of bodyjar & social distortion when dad is at work but id like to filter out the cannibal corpse & "code blue" by TSOL. 😛

It's pretty aggravating trying to hunt down an album by a certain artist, and start to play it only to find out that it is edited.

Also love the service but can't use it at work.  Would be able to if a "explicit" button or "clean only" version was available.  Please continue to consider this!!!

Great Idea! i actually want this feature for the opposite reason. I want to listen to explicit albums only lol. im a grown man and dont need  to be listening to edited music. i want to listen to music as it was intended to be listen by the artist. Hearing skips or word repetitions to cover bad words is not what i want. this feature would allow us to have choice when we want to listen to approiate music ( parties, family events) or explicit music when were by ourself or adult company.  PLease add this filter in your next point upgrade!!!

I allow my students to create playlists for lunch, after school events, and senior events as well... It is FRUSTRATING when I hear a swear word during these times because ... I CANNOT POSSIBLY LISTEN TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE SONGS THEY CHOOSE to filter them out! This should be a BASIC feature (my husband is a software programmer and says it would be extremely easy, so what gives?). PLEASE DO IT otherwise I'm having to cancel my account (make that - cancel my PAID account)...

Grumble grumble...

I am shocked this doesn't exist, and unfortunately, will mean I will not be a subscriber.  THis is very important to me.  Here is the (very friendly ) exchange I had with Pandora on this topic on January 15, 2013.  You could learn from them.

Hello sfbaileys,

You can restrict Pandora from playing songs or displaying ads with explicit content. To do that you need to sign into your account on a computer. Once you're signed in, click on your Pandora account name in the upper right corner of the page. From the drop-down menu, select Settings. There, you should see "Explicit Content Filter" (you may need to scroll down). Choose "No. Do not allow explicit content."

You will also be given the option to protect this setting with a PIN code. This is not required, though.

Then scroll down to click Save Changes.

To get back to the music player - select Now Playing.

Enabling this filter will limit Pandora to playing music that could play on daytime broadcast radio. Note that this can only be applied to the entire account and NOT specific stations. Once set, this will restrict explicit content for that account on all devices, as well.

Hope this helps. Thanks for listening!

Spotify says this improvement idea is "Under Consideration".  How will we know when (if) they make the change?
