[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Shocked to find out, only hours after starting a premiere subscription to Spotify - who I thought was the INTERNATIONAL leader in music on-demand, that after years of posts on this subject that there is no function/setting to allow a user to turn-off explicit content.

Very disappointing as I assumed such brand and leader would have already had what I assumed was basic functionality - and would assume that would make sense for their productization and appease a broader family friendly market.

I would love to have a 'family friendly' mode that either automatically switched to the non-explicit version of the song, or filters them out completely.

Agreed on the need for a filter.

It's been almost two years since this thread was started and the status is still under construction.  That is very disappointing.  I like to use spotify for my work.  I like the versatility of Spotify but am being forced to switch to Pandora for their ability to turn an explicit filter on.  I can't afford to having people getting angry or offended when a random song comes on with explicit lyrics.  Just when I think a radio station is safe I am sadly mistaken.

It's been too long... must be something income (money) related holding this up.  It can't be that hard to do... other than getting the board members to approve it. Good bye for now.

Big huge +1 to this request. It's my only gripe about Spotify and is making me use iTunes Radio more.

"Under consideration" for two years?  Come on, Spotify!  Just give us the option in Preferences and then you have to opt in to censorship.  It can't be too difficult and would get you loads more subscribers.

Bottom line, pressure from the artists to have their songs played have kept this from being implemented. It would limit their revenue stream.

The 'mood' browsing/playlist facility is great, and we had taken to selecting energetic or encouraging/empowering playlists to be the soundtrack the families getting ready routine... We've had to stop this now as too many explicit songs are turning up and just don't have time to monitor every song before it plays...

Want to keep using the service, but until there's a way of filtering out the explicit songs we'll just have to stick to traditional radio station (even though we listen to these digitally as well) as we know they're 'safe'. Shame really as spotify has found a great way to help 'set the mood'.

Get it right guys and we're in there with you all the way...

I upgraded to a premium account thinking it would be possible to filter explicit songs - no chance.

This is really annoying. Not everyone feels the need to hear cussing and swearing on their music. It's my chance to relax and enjoy.

Spotify - sort yourselves out - and enable this feature !!!

You already mark songs as explicit but dont allow users to filter on this field - whats the problem ? ....be honest here guys and stop hiding behind your dismissive "under consideration" banner...
