[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I'm going to find another provider that actually listens to what people want and not waste my money on a company as blithe and unresponsive as you clearly are.

Spotify = not cool.

I used Pandora all weekend during a family gathering, without fear. I just can't let Spotify run in the background without me being there to skip explicit songs.

For now, I'm going to switch my premium account from Spotify to Pandora. (By the way, Pandora One is $3.99 at the moment. The feature I want for a better price.)

I would actually like this feature in the form of "Never play censored content". I don't believe in censorship at all, period. And I don't want to hear censored music coming out of my computer under any condition.

I'm sorry you don't have this. I was enjoying listening to "THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS" radio with my kids (nice to have real music and kids' music combined, when suddenly Garfunkel and Oates (whom I love when the kids aren't around). started singing **bleep** you **bleep** you **bleep** you. And now my kids are singing it. So much for listening to spotify.

...Also, LOVE the fact that you can't someone keep explicity content from my home when I want it, but automatically change the words your having my kids listen to changed so that adults on this site can't read it. ...So my kids are singing F***, but I can't write it...

How many requests does it take in order for a suggestion to be implemented? Seems like there is a great amount of interest in this one.

Having a visual indicator is a huge plus. Add an explicit label to the album / song!

This feature would be great!  There are playlists I'd like to play at family oriented events (i.e. bbq's, 4th of july, etc.).  Having a checkbox you can use to avoid “explicit” songs from playing would be awesome!  PLEASE CONSIDER  🙂

love the service - use spotify on practically a daily basis.

I would highly recommend that all of you please tweet Spotify's accounts such as SpotifyCares in hopes of a response and to bring their attention to this need.

Here's a response I got within 24 hours...I hope it results in something being done and this feature (and its vice versa) are implemented.

So, with 41+ pages of comments and over 1.4k kudos, how is this not a feature? Oh wait they wanted to give us the "new" grey and black interface, instead of listening to their customers.

I am considering never using Spotify again because this is missing.
