[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Simply cannot use Spotify at family gatherings, parties, etc., as I and my friends have children. Your service would be so much more used by us if we could have a PG setting or something to remove explicit lyric songs and advertisements from the radio feeds.

Would really appreciate Spotify doing this.  Would like to be able to use this with the family and at work as many others have started. Thanks for considering!

I still can't believe this is not an option. I can't see an ideas topic with more comments than this one.

I work at a school IT office and we often have students coming in and this is a huge issue with Spotify (which is running all day).

I would like to use Spotify more, but at work I have to use Pandora since they offer an explicit content filter so I will probably end up subscribing to Pandora instead. Seems like this would be a no-brainer to add to Spotify. Really what is the downside?

I completely agree with the last post.  I definitely prefer the features and capabilites of Spotify but can't use it much since anything other than targeted tracks could have unacceptable or explicit lyrics.  I can turn the filter feature on for my Pandora account.  Once Spotify adds this feature and I can verify that it's filtering content or only playing edited/clean versions of songs.  Hopefully this goes through soon so I can cancel my Pandora subscription and go to a full account with Spotify!

This is definitely one of the biggest issues I have spotify today. It's not just to save kids/family from lyrics - I personally really don't WANT to hear a song that goes p***y p***y repeatedly, even if I'm by myself. 🙂
