[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Just to add to this thread. Failure to provide an option to 'hide' expicit content has led to me cancelling my spotify premium account now that my premium trial is ending.

It was good, but I cant have explicit tracks playing (I use track radio) in a house with a 4 yr, 7 yr, 11, yr and 13 yr old kids!

Failure to provide an 'explicit' filter = loss of $120 per year. Congratulations.

Looking online to find a solution to this problem (which has been live for more than 3 yrs) there is a user written programme that spotify declined to make available.

I hope that your venture capital investors are happy losing money because you dont want to make available something where there is clearly customer demand.

I get that YOU don't want to censor music. I'm not asking you to. I want the ability to censor the lyrics that my kids hear - for the same reason I don't let them watch 18 rated horror films. Please cop on and pull your fingers out on this.

Come on, Spotify. I'm going to have to change to another provider, now there's more of a choice, simply because of unwanted explicit content. It means I can only use Spotify about a third of the time I want to! Looking back at how long this has been "under consideration", it's obviously a low priority - very unfortunate.

2.5 years and counting.

Spotify clearly dosn't listen to its customers. I canceled my paid account because of this issue.

Hope others follow suit as there's plenty of other choises around now...

I want to add my encouragement for an option to filter songs with explicit lyrics.

please do. this is an amazing idea.

in Agreement. it's nice to be able to listen to spotify around my kids without having the pressure of having to explain what those words mean ... someday sure.. but it's nice to be able to choose when that time is right for my children.

Kudos on such a great service... this button/ability would be another feather in your cap.

Definately agree - my kids love music but I wont let them use Spotify as it stands.

Such a common feature now - it's expected by users.

You should have a parental control available that allows only "clean" versions of songs. Kids really should not have to listen to all the cuss words when listening to songs. Add a parental control please!!

Hoping this gets added to spotify soon. I love Spotify's playlists and all of the new stations/playlitsts that have been added this year. They're great and I love listening to them in my office. That being said... I can't have explicit music playing at work and with a lot of the new songs the playlists suggest I don't know to skip them until its too late. This would be a great feature. Thanks for working on it.

This feature is a MUST! Far too many times i've had to shut off my spotify in favor of pandora at gatherings due to the explicit (but still good) songs.   Having young kids and mixed family-friendly crowds around, i need to be able to be comfortable with the music we're playing. In the meantime i have to go with Pandora over spotify simply because of this.
