[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I'm currently testing Spotify Premium in Canada as my first music streaming service and was very surprised that there is no option to disable "Explicit" songs... especially as the Spotify client displays an "Explicit" flag beside the relevent song. This should be easy to implement.

I wouldn't mind if there were only a few explicit songs but in the USA for the Top 100 tracks, 20 of them are flagged as Explicit... in other words on average every fifth song will contain explicit lyrics.

I've no interest in listening to musicians who feel they need to use profanity in their songs... and if Spotify doesn't provide an option to block this content then I will simply subscribe to Google Play Music instead. They've had the option to filter explicit songs for over a year.

Kind Regards

I also noticed that there are only 26 ideas with the status "Under Consideration". This one has the highest number of comments (by far) and the third highest Kudos score. (The two ideas with higher kudos score are "Disable duplicates in playlists" and "Provide a discounted family membership").

Given the high demand for this feature, over 2.5 years of asking and trivial implementation costs, there must be another reason why this hasn't been done.

I'd like to see this option as well.

This should have been done already, it is really hard to use spotify with the kids around currently

That would be amazing.  I hate when I put on the morning run soundtrack when I go for my early walk, and start hearing cussing.  This wouldn't hurt anyone who wants to hear ot either.

I need this for my kids! We play through Sonos - Pandora has the option, why not Spotify??

This request has been active for 2 1/2 years and the only status is "we're thinking about it"??? What's there to think about, this is a very basic feature - even Pandora has this.  I was amazed that this wasn't part of the day one.  Is there some technical difficulty that makes this hard to implement?  Or are you just not interested in implementing this feature? I'm really quite curious what there is to consider about this simple, basic request.

There shouldn't be edited songs. All songs with explicit lyrics should be left alone. I was gonna say they're too many edited songs. When you pay for something it should be uncensored. That'd be like buying an edited DVD.

I'd love to make my kids some playlists and know there is an option to check that is simply "turn off explicit content"

please keep working on this feature!

This would be a fantastic idea, as some of my playlists contain songs that I would not want children to listen to.

However, the explicit indicator in the player is so inaccurate that I doubt there would be any point implementing this unless there was an update on the current, vast quantity of tracks with explicit content but are not marked as such...

Dont belive me? Search for a song called "face down ass up" and see just how many are not marked as explicit.
