[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Please post your comments and concerns on their social media pages, its obvious they're ignoring this thread for weeks now.

Really need this spotify. Too many songs have explicit tag. I don't want to hear them, and neither do my kids.

timtla

I read that they don't censor songs.

I am not asking for censorship, I am asking to establish a preference/filter.

I can filter by Genre and this is a similar need for listening around the house with the family.

Please consider!!

I can't believe that this this is still not implemented. Spotify decided to implement a "family" plan before even considering the fact that many families don't want their children to have completely open access to music with explicit lyrics. It shows, once again, that Spotify cares more about the business than their user base. I've been posting on their Twitter and Facebook feeds for over a year now. They just don't care.

Under Construction since 2-18-2012.  Seriously?

I am censoring what I listen to by either chosing Country or Jazz.... Why can't I censor explicit or non-explicit.  Just saying.  It is NOT censoring in my eyes, it is filtering MY PREFERENCES.

Yes please! Non explicit option would be great for work and family friendly listening!

The fact that's it's taking so long for Spotify to deliver on this requested feature (desired by so many) seems to indicate how little they care about the option to disable explicit material. If Pandora can do it, why can't Spotify? Is Spotify less capable than Pandora or just less concerned about their listeners?

It is crazy that this has not been implemented. The functionality is actually all there - it's even in their API!

Old Apps API: https://developer.spotify.com/docs/apps/api/1.0/api-models-track.html

New Web API: https://developer.spotify.com/web-api/get-track/

If only they could put it in their SDK API: https://developer.spotify.com/web-api/get-track/ we could use external applications (eg Denied) to filter it!

It is crazy that they have not put in the 5 minutes it would take to implement this feature!

I'm not one to say "how hard could this be?" but ... how hard could this be? It's a real issue now that Spotify has so many great speaker integrations. It's not just headphones anymore and that can be a real problem.

Hey Guys

I work within a school where it is illegal in New Zealand to play explicit songs that are explicit within the age group I volunteer for (10-18 yrs of age children/teens). We have an outdoor system that was installed a year ago, one that provides music to the students during interval/lunchtime. This outdoor system was self fundrasied by the efforts of the students during our anual workday, where each student is required to earn $30 for a full days work at a business that they have chosen to work it.

We use Spotify as the music streamer, buying a spotify subscription every month, using spotify because of the wide selection of songs and avaliability of many artists on it. However alot of songs within Spotify are Explicit, which we can't play. We usually play songs on the Top Lists on spotify, as many teenagers want to listen to the latest music, however there are many songs within that list that are explicit. We currently have to use two options. One - A person stays at the computer for the full hour for lunch and 1/2 hour for interval and skip all expicit songs that appear on the play queue or two - Make a playlist that hasn't got ay explicit songs and update it weekly for all of the latest hits.

Option 1 isn't the greatest in our case because we have configured the computer and sound system so that they turn on for the start of the break when the music is required, start playing as soon as the PC is on. Because our setup is in a room that isn't always avaliable for our use we can't actually be up there all the time, most morning teas and lunchtimes we are not allowed in there as the room is in use.

Option 2 isn't also the greatest, however we'll currently having to do it. This means that we have to add the latest songs that are on the top hits weekly (as there updated weekly) and then have to go through the playlist to remove any explicit songs (usually a dozen or so).

I know many schools that are interested in using spotify, however the only issue they face is that there are many explicit songs on Spotify, where currently there isn't an option to skip Explicit songs in the prefrences or such.

Yes, currently there is the avaliablity for us to see what songs are explicit, and to add those songs to a custom playlist. However by adding an option this will benefit us the wider audience, and also benefit Spotify as many more community groups/schools/families will purchase a Premium Subscription.

To further enhance Spotify I would recommend that you, spotify allow the function to be avaliable. Surely 57 Pages on this post, thousands of duplicate posts on Spotify's fourms, many other website explains the Screen Shot 2014-10-24 at 6.34.41 pm 1.pngbenefit of having a feature avaliable for a user to enable and possibly more community groups and schools willing to purchase a Premium subscription is worth it being avaliable.

Hopefully Spotify takes mine, and many others advice and add this feature within the near future. And if someone from Spotify sees this post can they please post an update on this fourm because its been 5 moths since we've had an update.

Please not this is my personal account, not the schools.
