[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

You folks sure do take a long time to "consider" something that must be very easy to implement for such smart people like yourselves. I'm starting to wonder if there might be $omething that is influencing your decision to ignore the highly requested option to allow filtering of explicit content for almost 3 years.

We need a filter to stop the swearing, I have to check all the play lists before playing to avoid the family having to hear pointless swearing.

Do we have any idea when this is being reviewed by Spotify?

I see that Spotify says "they're listening" to feedback about this topic. How could the feedback be more universal? This would be a HUGE addition of value to the service.

So I have now got an alpha version of a windows app to skip tracks marked as Explicit. Will release this and the Mac version shortly!

@auhsor

Thank you for doing making a solutiong and for sharing it with us who are unable to do as you have.

I would also love this feature. I often listen to Spotify at the office and having my music swear at my clients is not terribly appropriate. Similarly at home, I'd rather not subject my kids to the language  that occasionally pops up in the music I listen to. An option to automatically skip these tracks would be awesome.

I've actually been looking for this exact feature for some time. My family listens to spotify every day, it's really changed how we listen to music. When we use it like a radio, and turn on playlists, it would be great to opt out of Explicit tracks.

Alternatively, it would be cool to be able to simply flag a track manually for skipping.

thanks!

I'm amazed that this option is still not available.  I would probably have a premium membership by now if it were there but somehow this almost 3-year-old 'idea' is still just under consideration.  Is there some push from the record labels to disallow explicit filtering so their potty mouth artists can get equal air time by association?  Half the time I can even find a 'radio edit' for a popular song.  There has to be some large financial incentive not to create this feature because the cost of developing it would be so miniscule.  Disappointing to say the least.  I'd love for someone at Spotify to bring to light the real reason for ignoring this simple request (sorry, but 'considering' for three years is tantamount to ignoring).

Hurrah... Discounted family membership is now available ( https://www.spotify.com/us/family/ )... and marketed with pictures of happy young kids. So hopefully that means the Explicit filter is also finally close to happening. I'll be getting a family subscription as soon as it does.

What I find odd is that Spotify used to link the explicit and radio edit version of many popular songs together so you didnt even have to search for them. Then the feature just disapeared - I'm betting there was a financial incentive to remove it but I can't imagine what it is. It certainly wasnt removed for the benfit of their user.

I have Spotify premium and would expand to the family plan for my 9 yr old son (who loves Spotify) if they would make it turn key to build his playlist with edited versions of his favorite songs.
