[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Hard to believe this issue is 3 years old with over a thousand comments and has yet to be resolved. I love spotify and had deleted pandora until I realized spotify did not have an explicit filter (It is 2015 right?).

I cannot control what is going to play next when it is on radio and would rather not have to feel like a gunslinger ready to skip to the next song so that I do not have to explain to my kid what certain words mean or tell him not to repeat those words to his small friends.

Please take action on this. Everything about spotify is superior to pandora...go ahead and fix this issue and watch new subscribers come in

I'm only on spotify for radio feature, until I can get a clean version only radio I have to cancel 😞

tomaspersson

Yes! Please add this feature.

engljeff

please enable this or similar feature

Please add a disable explicit lyrics button.  Its not just about young ears, I personally don't want to hear those songs.  Garabage in, garbage out.

russell247

I personally would really appreciate this feature.

The thread says under consideration, but my feeling is that it's lower priority than deciding what brand of fish food they're going to buy for their gold fish. So I'll help you out this is an idea of how the front end could look.

Please, please put in this feature! I just switched to spotify this last week from pandora and I was loving it. My son 4-year old son started dancing to a song with a good beat that was clean, and so I created a radio station from it. Two songs later, the swearing started. So I dove in to find the filter button, and could not find it at all. My wife shut it down on the second song.

I am really shocked to see the lack of an explicit filter. Please add this feature. I will probably be leaving Spotify despite every other feature being superior to Pandora which has grown stale for me.

Thanks!

3 years later and it is still only under consideration?  Please put this in the advanced settings so we can all play anything at work and not have to hear F bombs right as the Boss walks in.... Ideally I would like to see a toggle button on/off next to shuffle however the bare minimum would be to hide this feature in the advanced settings!

engljeff

Can we please have an official statement from Spotify as to why this feature isn't included?

CoryDeanhardt

This would be perfect, we take groups of all ages out on the boat and like to listen to music.  It would be nice not to worry about the F-Bomb being dropped inadvertantly in the middle of a playlist.  I even tried looking up radio edits and those playlists were worse than the others... trickery I tell you!!  😉
