[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Love the service but might have to switch back to Pandora if I can't disable explicit content with the click of a button.  Been a premium subscriber for awhile now.

wrote to spotify. Said I left their service for pandora, which I did, because there was no office setting. this was the reply. -------------------- Hello ***My Name***, Thanks for getting in touch with us. We're sorry to hear you're unable to listen to Spotify in the office because of some explicit lyrics. No worries, we're here to help. We'd love to have you take control of the music you'd love to hear. However, Spotify does not censor music; we make it available in whatever form it’s given to us by the artists or labels. Often, they provide both an “explicit” and a “clean” version of an album. To find all versions of an album: 1. Open the Spotify app on your computer. 2. Search for and open an album page. 3. If other versions are available, More Releases will show below the final track. Enjoy your music! Just let us know if you have any questions. All the best, Francis Spotify Customer Support ------------------------------------ my reply to this was ----------------- Hi, I didn't ask you to censor the music, I simply asked that you have a button that will auto skip any songs with an explicit tag. As you said, sometimes you get an explicit and non explicit version. I would just like a setting to default to non explicit songs or skip it if non explicit is not available. Also I don't listen to "albums" and I don't listen to just one station or just a few playlists. The great thing about Spotify is that I can find ready made playlists without a lot of work. I go through playlists like a popstar goes through relationships. I don't have time to go through new playlists all the time to check for explicit tags and create a new playlist with the other versions. You advertise that you have ready made playlists for every mood and every situation, but you really don't. I'm sorry that your refuse to see this from my perspective. Your work around is crap. If I wanted that level of cultivation for a playlist I would still be downloading mp3's. Why do you keep insisting on calling an OPTIONAL autoskip feature censorship when it's not? -------------------- Yeah, I don't think they are going to do anything about it.

Great job! If all of us keep writing these in, they will start to pay attention (because we will drive them nuts!)

I would like this option implemented as soon as possible.  I'm not sure what the hold up would be except maybe money you are making from subscriptions?  I'm not sure how that works.

BUT, I do know that I'm not intersted in hearing the N word or other curse words in my music that I play in my home, car, on my phone, etc.  I also do not want to feed this to my 13 year old daughter although I bought her a 6 month subscription and have now discovered the very very explicit content she has full access to.

Please consider the decency to give paying customers the option to choose what they want to hear.

We wil not be renewing unless this option exists.

Look to yesterday's post to see what I put. This was the reply. ------------------- Thanks for emailing us back. We appreciate your feedback and we'd love to address your concern. We always look forward to having your suggestions about having a disable explicit button available to users. We’ll be sure to pass your suggestion onto the right folks here at Spotify. You can also share and support similar ideas on our ideas board. Those who also support your idea can then vote on it or add to the conversation. We’ll keep everyone updated on the status of your idea. Please note that we're always looking to improve Spotify in any way we can. Your suggestions definitely count and we thank you for sharing your views. Please let us know if you have any more ideas or feedback. Have an awesome day 🙂 ----------------- It's like they really don't know that this is number 3 on open ideas. I guess they don't check the ideas. It reminds me of a comedy routine where some business had a door labeled "complaint department" that just leads outside with no door handle to get back in. Well, it's nice to know that we're yelling at a wall here.

For all of you who weren't using Apple music for Android because of beta problems, I'm happy to tell you, it works! I'm cancelling Spotify today and switching to apple music. I may be back when/if this feature is added. For now, I'll be over at apple music if anyone would like to join me.

your most recent comment is insulting at best. it looks like this conversation has been going on for a while. when i hear unwarranted lyrics on the feed, i go to skip and i see an 'explicit' tag to dang near every one of them. if the tag exists, it shouldn't be that big a deal to filter out the tags. looking at some of the 'enhancements' you have pushed out in the last 2 years, it looks like you've wasted a lot of time as creating things people frankly couldn't care less existed. so, this 'good idea' is probably something that should go on the top of the list of 'ideas to get done quick'. looking at the open source solutions you guys have rejected from the market, the code is pretty straight forward and proven. until you figure this added value thing out, its pandora time.
