[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Please add this option - really don't want to hear explicit lyrics

Please let me filter explicit songs from my playlists, I don't want my son growing up thinking it OK yo use them cos they are coming from his mummy's phonemes

My wife uses Spotify to play music for group fitness classes. The gym she trains at has asked her to ensure that there is no profanity in the music she plays (there have been some complaints apparently). It would be much easier for her to use the spotify curated playlists if she could filter out profanity but she currently has to spend hours each month building playlists by scrubbing through music to ensure that it is ok to use at work.

I gave up on the hours and hours of scrubbing new playlists and moved back
to Pandora. You have less freedom to hear what you want to hear, but more
freedom to not hear what you don't want to hear. Since getting fired is
worse than not being able to immediately play a song I like it was a no
brainer for me.

Why hasn't this feature been added yet!?? The posts I just read were from 2012 and yet, on November 17, 2015, Spotify posted '...we don't have an update for you at the moment'!

Not being able to skip explicit content renders this app completely useless (for me and my family). We like to listen to Soul or good R&B but boy, the lyrics here are just downright 'unacceptable'. The word 'ass' here and there wouldn't be so bad but 'p...y' and 'd...k' and what they do with them!! I'm a grown man, have been around, was in the army and have heard my share of 'language' but one cannot listen to any random Soul or R&B playlist when there is ANYONE around, let alone kids, coworkers or other family members. Heck, even friends would wonder if you were to put this stuff on when they are over.

Spotify is a good idea of course; just wish there was an option to skip any song that has vulgarity in it. It's like going to your free family movie channel and have hardcore porn readily available for EVERYONE to watch!

Write to office@spotify.com and let them know as they dont seem to be
reading this forum.

Already did - twice! You are correct, they don’t read this forum but also, they don’t seem to read emails. They replied with their standard ‘listen to non-explicit albums’ and ‘listen to songs, make sure they are clean and create your own playlist’. All I (we?) want is an option that lets you filter out anything explicit, right? Are we asking for too much?? I don’t think so!

One other place to make your voice heard is in the app reviews.

yes Ive done that. Sadly I have to give it 1 star to get their attention.
