[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

It has occurred to me that many people voting in this thread would want to support another Idea asking Spotify to bear some social responsibility.

If you agree that protection from the unacceptable side of social media, i.e. cyberbullying and cyberstalking, is an absolute necessity for everyone and absolutely paramount for your children to grow up feeling happy and secure, please look at this thread. Your support is desperately needed by many people, and the numbers are increasing day by day.

For all the people who vote or comment there, I think we can be sure there are some who are too afraid to come out of the shadows. I understand that only too well.

I have a dream....

I never, never, never want to hear another story on the news of a child taking their own life because of cyberbullying. It's that important.

That thread is not simply about stopping other people seeing what music your are listening too. It has far, far wider implications.

As children become old enough to manage their own accounts, it's so important that they know how to protect themselves. Spotify are not providing that protection.

Spotify are cyberbulling

Sorry. Spotify are cyberbullys. Kids can't  protect themselves from what spotify seems to think won't hurt them.

The thing that I think is most crazy to me is what appears to be Spotify's lack of business sense. In today's tech economy, the customer is king. Perhaps there are features and threads in this community that are getting more votes or kudos to demand the attention of Spotify developers, but I can't imagine there is a thread with more customer frustration than this one. I just feel like any competent CEO would understand that this would be a highly effective feature to focus on to preserve brand equity and customer satisfaction.

4 years and 4,746 kudos later... "Good Idea, give it some kudos."

What a joke.

LOVE THIS IDEA!

I listen to Spotify nearly constantly - I love the service, but I'd like to be able to filter out explicit songs.

In the same line of thought: I'd love to see the ability for end users (subscribers) to be able to submit a song for consideration for being marked as explicit - I've come across a number that could make a sailor blush, but aren't marked as explicit.

Thanks!

I use spotify in my office and a song recently came on with swearing and really offended some of my customers.

A way to filter explicit music is a must have feature!

Recently switched from Apple Music -- shocked that this isn't a feature in Spotify.  As bad as Apple Music's interface is they have figured this out.

Please add this as a feature, it shouldn't be hard.

Add this feature please!

I'm getting tired of paying for this service and having to be careful where I play it, just give the option, it doesn't mean you have to edit all just give us the option to turn off explicit music. Just like you know... EVERY OTHER MUSIC APP...
